SUSU Staff Took Part in the Conference on Prospects of Development of Russian Cosmonautics

On April 12 of 2018, a science-to-practice conference on Prospects of Development of Russian Cosmonautics was held in the Cosmonautics and Aviation Center located in the renovated Space pavilion at VDNH.

The conference was aimed at discussing plans and areas of prospective inventions of Roscosmos State Corporation, the projects of university students and representatives of innovative society, exchange of opinions and projects on topical directions of technological development. Organizer of the conference held on the occasion of the Cosmonautics Day was the Roscosmos State Corporation.

Academic staff of SUSU Polytechnic Institute’s Faculty of Aerospace Engineering took part in the conference: Assistant of the Department of Aircraft Engines, Valeriy Bogdanov, and Associate Professor of the Department of Aircrafts, Ruslan Peshkov.

The conference started with a plenary report by Director General of the Roscosmos State Corporation for Space Activity, Igor Komarov, entitled “Russia and the space – the past, the present and the future.”

In the frameworks of technical session, reports were made by young researchers and specialists of the rocket and space industry, representatives of the leading technical universities and institutes of RAS in such research and development areas as exploration of the Moon, formation of evolutionary orbital groups and near-Earth research environment, space manufacturing with the use of space resources, extra-long-range missions beyond the boundaries of the Solar system, and the use of artificial intelligence for missions in deep space. The issues of using nanocomposite protective covers for porthole panes of space apparatuses, development of ultra-light launch vehicle, the use of technology of virtual and mixed reality, etc. were discussed.

Representatives of our university took part in parallel panel discussions concerning the mechanisms for support of innovative projects and the international partnership in space activity.

The final plenary session was dedicated to discussing the issues of space business development and the prospects of space activity.

Summarizing the conference, our representatives noted that among the topical issues discussed in the course of the conference were the issues concerning the interaction with asteroids, particularly regarding extraction of resources from under their surface, and elimination of space debris and its use for manufacturing in space. These and other areas are breakthrough areas which fully correspond with strategic areas of development and implementation of Project 5-100 at the SUSU Faculty of Aerospace Engineering.
