SUSU Scientists Take Part in the Days of Russian Clinical Psychology at Sofia University

Active collaboration of psychologists of South Ural State University takes on new forms. At the mutual initiative of the Russian and Bulgarian professional psychological communities, Days of Russian Clinical Psychology were held at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohrdiski” last week.

Over that period of time the leading scientists and specialists in clinical psychology delivered their presentations for the audience of Bulgarian psychologists, students and Master’s students of Clinical Psychology program. Open lectures, round tables and other events were held, during which the main problems of clinical psychology and the achievements of Russian school of clinical psychology were discussed. Among the events’ participants were Professor Aleksandr Tkhostov, Head of the Department of Neuro- and Pathopsychology at Lomonosov Moscow State University; Prof. Sergey Enikolopov, Head of the Clinical Psychology Office at the Mental Health Research Center (MHRC) of RAS; Prof. Elena Isaeva, Head of the Department of General and Medical Psychology at Pavlov First Saint Petersburg State Medical University, and others.

As per results of the long-term collaboration in this field, a special invitation was also issued to the employees of the SUSU Department of Clinical Psychology – Head of the Department Mikhail Berebin and Associate Professor of the Department Anna Shtrakhova. A great interest and many questions were excited by the open lectures that they delivered on Clinical Psychology of Traumatic Stress and Post-stress Disorders, and on Personality of a Psychosomatic Patient as a Clinical Problem and Psychotherapy Target. Active discussions were held, while in most part they were initiated by members of the Russian delegation. By no means unimportant for the collaboration prospects is the active interest of our Russian-speaking colleagues from Bulgaria demonstrated in the talks and dialogues with the members of the Russian delegation.

According to the supervisor of the programs on clinical psychology training, Professor Vanya Lukovaya Matanova, the events held within the frameworks of the Days of Russian Clinical Psychology were held at Sofia University will contribute greatly into development of this field of psychology in the Republic of Bulgaria.

The closing stage of the held events was the signing of a Collaboration Memorandum between the Russian Psychological Society and the Bulgarian Psychological Society, in which South Ural State University was defined as a coordinator university namely with regard to the problems of clinical psychology. Currently a certain program of joint research and other events in this field is being elaborated.
