The anniversary 25th Lomonosov conference for students, postgraduates and young scientists was held at Lomonosov Moscow State University, where Master’s students of the Faculty of Journalism of the SUSU Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities took part.
The conference work was organized under 38 sections, reflecting all of the fields of modern fundamental and applied science. This year more than 12,000 students from Russia and abroad took part in Lomonosov. To participate in the conference, Master’s students of the Faculty of Journalism from the SUSU Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities Arina Marfitsyna and Viktoriya Ivanova prepared research articles which successfully passed expert assessment. The contest selection from among the submitted works was performed by expert councils of the sections, headed by the leading scientists of Lomonosov MSU and the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The young researchers of the SUSU ISSH Faculty of Journalism took part in the Journalism section, delivering presentations on the theory and practice of media research, as well as on style and language in mass media. Viktoriya Ivanova’s research article explores manipulative strategies in online political media texts from the point of view of linguistic expert analysis, using materials from the 2018 presidential election campaign. The research by Arina Marfitsyna is based on the study of multimedia integration of student mass media in the context of professional training of student journalists. The article describes the work of the unique 360-degree Multimedia Newsroom university laboratory, at which students acquire skills and professional competences of a universal journalism by practicing in real converged media-production conditions. The sections also included discussions on creating and editing media texts; mass media in Russia and the world: print, television, and radio; youth journalism in the era of new media; and more.
“It was nerve-wracking to participate in such a large, international forum, and I felt like I had a lot of responsibility on me. The grand opening of the forum, with the participation of the legendary cosmonaut and creator of a fundamentally new system of space flight control, two-time Hero of the Soviet Union Vladimir Alekseyevich Solovyov, set a certain high bar and pace for the whole event. We attended various master classes and met with the leading specialists in journalism and linguistics, and participated in interesting discussions at the MSU Faculty of Journalism. It’s important to note that the experience of the SUSU Faculty of Journalism in forming a new media space was also interesting to the participants of the forum from different universities,” comments Viktoriya Ivanova, Master’s student of group СГ-215.
At the end of the conference, the SUSU Master’s students were awarded the forum participants’ certificates and a collection of the research papers of the conference which included their research studies.
We should note that Lomonosov International Youth Scientific Forum, the organizational committee co-chairs of which are the Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Olga Yurevna Vasilyeva, and Rector of the Moscow State University, academician Victor Antonovich Sadovnichy, is one of the largest and most respected scientific events for young researchers in Russia and abroad.
