The Day of Russian Science at SUSU

February 8, on the Day of Russian Science, a series of events dedicated to achievements of the university’s scientists, researchers and inventors was held at South Ural State University: the 10th scientific conference of postgraduate and doctorate students was opened; the exhibition of unique sceince and technology inventions started its operation; presentations of young scientists’ research and the SUSU Scientific Fights Intellectual Competition were held.

Central event of the Day of Science – 2018 is the Scientific conference of postgraduate and doctorate students which will last for three days. More than a hundred of young scientists and researchers take part in the conference. During his speech at the opening of the Conference, the Rector of SUSU Alexander Shestakov congratulated everybody on the occasion of the Day of Science and noted:

“The Day of Science is a very important holiday for the university as in the basis of education lies serious scientific work. Development of science is prioritized direction of the university within the frameworks of Project 5-100, and SUSU is steadily positioning itself in the international education space as one of the leading scientific centers of Russia.”

By the present time, eight international research laboratories supervised by the leading scientists from Australia, Great Britain, Germany, India, Canada, Mexico, USA and France have been formed at the university. An excellent example of collaboration is the joint project on additive technologies, implemented by SUSU in cooperation with SMS Group Company and National Engineering School of Saint-Étienne (2016-2017); with the latest, the university created a joint Laboratory of Mechanics, Laser processes and Digital Production Technologies (Head of the Laboratory is a leading international scientist, Philippe Bertrand). The project possesses a science-and-research, educational and innovative component and oriented at Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Plant.

Another key event of the Day of Science was opening of the science and technology exhibition entitled “Science and Innovations of SUSU”. Scientists, students and postgrads of the university demonstrated results of their research activity. The leading inventions of the university from the latest years are exhibited in the SUSU exhibition complex.

“Each of the exhibit item displayed here is a result of thorough work based on serious fundamental research and publications in international journals. It is good to know that the majority of theoretical developments in our university change their status to real-life projects,” emphasized the Rector of SUSU.

Among the exhibit items, there is a mechatronic rehabilitating device for human’s lower limbs, and a complex for simulation of electromagnetic solar radiation for treatment and prevention of cancerous and infective diseases.

Special attention of the exhibition guests was drawn by an executive device for automatic self-inflating of tires “on-the-go”. At first sight, the device is a small wheel disk. But, according to engineers, this precise disk can reduce the number of car accidents and increase the velocity of heavy vehicles.

“The system is intended for enhancing safety of a car by the method of adaptive regulation of pressure in tires depending on motion mode and road conditions,” explained Vladislav Anchukov, an engineer of the SUSU Center of Computer Engineering.

Another object that excited sincere interest of visitors was interactive sandpit, developed by “Innovations to Children” small innovative enterprise of SUSU. The sandpit is a portable complex including specially developed software, a sandpit and an interactive desk which interacts with a projector and use a Kinect sensor for recognition of the sand level and position of a player’s hands. The developed games have many advantages compared to traditional games and comply with modern principles of education by allowing to create an integrated environment targeted at simultaneous development of various sides of a kid’s personality. In addition, at exhibition stands visitors could see the becoming-popular anti-stress bread and unique FizioStep insoles.

Also, within celebration of the Day of Russian Science, Scientific fights of young scientists were held at SUSU. The event was organized under support of the Polytechnic Museum (Moscow). Scientific fights are simultaneously an intellectual show and a contest in which young scientists compete in ability to talk about their own scientific research results with a big audience in simple and interesting form. The university’s postgrads and master’s degree students took part in the SUSU Scientific fights. Names of the winners of the Scientific fights will be announced on February 9.

Thus, the Day of Russian Science at SUSU showed that the innovative solutions developed by the leading scientists of the university, and support of young science promote diversification of the regional economy and the growth of high-technology spheres. Implementation of new strategies becomes conditional for successful development of educational, scientific and innovative activity of SUSU, and provides a boost for transfer to a new level of education quality enhancement and new break-through scientific discoveries.

As a notice, events dedicated to the Day of Russian Science will continue at the university till February 10.
