International Students’ Day: a Celebration of Youth and Success

The International Students’ Day is celebrated on November 17. SUSU students are among the most well-educated and creatively developed in Russia; they prove this at international and all-Russian festivals and competitions.

“Our university is the largest university of Russia, so it can handle training students in absolutely different areas. Alongside with the study, students find time for their development in extracurricular direction. We have those who pursue science, those who are successful in sports, and those who actively perform volunteer work. Students realize projects of various scales: from the university till the international,” says Head of the Extracurricular Activities and Discipline Department of the SUSU Extracurricular Activities Department, Yakov Ermoshkin.

At the university, student life is coordinated by the United Student Council which organizes student projects and events. This year, SUSU became winner of the all-Russian contest of programs for development of student associations’ activities.

There are many various areas of our students’ activity. Members of the Headquarter of Student Labor Unions, who became winners of the Mirniy Atom (Peaceful Atom) all-Russian Student Construction Job, take an especially active part in the university’s social life.

Not less important for South Ural State University are performance groups who are many-times winners and prize holders of international festivals and all-Russian contests such as Student Spring Festival. Also, we have the Ural Hawk Student Sports Club which is included in the Association of Russian Student Sports Clubs, and is one of the best in the country.

Another important activity is volunteering. Today more and more students are willing to become volunteers. Besides, a lot of attention is focused on educational activity and training of full-fledged members of Russian society. Regarding this topic, we should mention the project that has been implementing for almost 13 years – the SUSU Young Leader School. This year, more than 800 students became members of the basic level.

Nowadays, our university is not only a modern venue for intra-university events, but also a platform for holding multiple all-Russian and international events.
