Sergey Vaulin: “SUSU is Foretelling Changes in Mechanical Engineering”

Director of the SUSU Polytechnic Institute Sergey Vaulin participated in a press conference dedicated to the upcoming Mechanical Engineer’s Day.

As speakers of the press conference stated, mechanical engineering and metallurgy are the engine of the Chelyabinsk region. According to the participants, for some time, this area was in decline. However, after this decline which lasted quite long, the situation the mechanical engineering field in the South Ural region has begun to stabilize. However, some experts explain this stabilization by the habit of working in conditions of constant crisis.

“That which we see in 2017 could possibly be called the first signs of stabilization. New projects are appearing. Compared to 2016, small and medium sized mechanical engineering businesses are more active – investors are ready to invest in the development of companies,” noted the director of the State Fund for the Development of Chelyabinsk Region Industry, Sergey Kazakov.

At the same time, the director of the SUSU Polytechnic Institute Sergey Vaulin noted that the crisis in this field did not touch South Ural State University. The University is continuing to train high-quality specialists.

“SUSU must foretell changes, outpacing the current situation, including the mechanical engineering field. We understand this quite well and apply this in education, using a project-based approach. Practical work in large projects for companies is being completed, and students are gaining the necessary practical training. The university is actively working with businesses for various events (Open House Day, Industrial Exhibitions, etc.). “Elite training” was created in 2016. This is a deeper and more focused approach to training in a certain field. Right now, this important work is in the beginning stages, so we’d really like to get feedback from businesses. I call on my colleagues to work together in this field to improve the situation for staff training,” said Sergey Dmitrievich.

At the end of the conference, the speakers noted that mechanical engineering is the industry that no country can be competitive without. The specialists emphasized, that mechanical engineering will be a priority in the strategy for developing the Chelyabinsk region. Development of this industry, first of all, will be realized through improving the efficiency of manufacturing.
