"Radio is Honest": SUSU Celebrates The Day of Radio

On May 7, the Day of Radio is traditionally celebrated in Russia. On this day in 1895, at a meeting of the Russian Physico-Chemical Society the Russian physicist Alexander Stepanovich Popov made a report and demonstrated the world's first radio receiver invented by him, having made the first radio-communication contact. And today it is a holiday for workers of all communication industries. We had a talk with the lecturer of the Media Department of the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities, the editor of Radio SUSU, Olga Lakhtacheva about the holiday, work on the radio and its peculiarities.

– How the SUSU Radio is going to celebrate the holiday?

– Our radio station never makes a big deal of the Day of Radio. We don't arrange big events on this occasion. If compared with something, I would compare this day with a family celebration. Usually we gather together in small groups. Correspondents, editors congratulate each other among intimates. Earlier, about 5 years ago, when I was a student, we drew wall newspapers for this day, but today we do not.

– What are the advantages of the radio and why do you like to work in the radio industry?

– Radio has always been one of the most operational media and this is one of its advantages. It does not like falsehood and lies, therefore we can always feel in the programs whether the journalist is sincere with the listeners or not. Radio is honest! Radio likes emotions and sincerity! Therefore, radio journalists are people who love and are able to communicate with people. The specificity of radio is a broadcasting to a large audience and to individuals immediately and at the same time. In this situation it seems that you are communicating with a close friend who is able to listen and gives positive drive. Not everyone can understand the secret of the radio. But those who manage to disclose it, fall in love with the radio forever!

– How the SUSU Radio has changed over the last years?

– Today SUSU Radio has the Elevate version and broadcasts in the elevators of the main building of SUSU. This is the main project of student radio. During the working day you can listen to a five-hour information and educational media product. At the same time, Radio SUSU also conducts a 24-hour broadcast on the website of our radio. Anyone can listen to the work of beginning radio journalists. Besides, the activity of the radio has been expanded considerably lately. Now students not only create copyright radio programs, but also work in social networks, create multimedia content, have the opportunity to work in several media at once, because SUSU radio is a part of the 360-degree multimedia newsroom of SUSU. I think that the creative process on our radio will never run out.

– Would you like to congratulate students and lecturers with the Day of Radio?

– Of course. With all my heart I wish the SUSU Radio further growth, interesting projects and numerous victories in competitions of different levels. We have a huge potential and this potential waits for the opportunity to fulfill itself and  lead the radio to new victories. To be the first is an important principle of radio! And I wish my favorite SUSU Radio professional growth, creative inspiration and endless stream of optimism!
