The SUSU faculty of Service and Artistic Materials Processing Technology and the Chelyabinsk Atomic Energy Informational Center present their project, “Form of the Book”, which includes two exhibitions: the exhibition for the third international award on scientific illustration «IL·LUSTRACIÈNCIA», and the exhibition for laureates for “Most Beautiful German Books” 2014 and 2015. Both exhibitions will go from April 6th until April 25 in the Pushkin Central Library (Ulitsa Kommuny, 69).
The international award on scientific illustration, «IL·LUSTRACIÈNCIA», is organized by the Catalonian Association for Science Communication (Asociación Catalana de Comunicación Científica, ACCC) with financial support for the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología, FECYT). IL·LUSTRACIÈNCIA has a set goal of recognizing the importance of scientific illustration, it’s naturalism, and advancement of scientific illustration in all its forms. 424 works from different corners of the world participated in the third contest. From these works, a professional jury chose 40 to be placed in the exhibit. Chelyabinsk is the first city in Russia to host this exhibit.
The German Fund for Book Art has been awarding the prize for “Most Beautiful German Books” for more than 60 years. The Prize’s jury selects the 25 best from all submitted publications, five books in five categories: “general literature”, “scientific books, school books, educational books”, “guide books, research books”, “art and photography books, exhibition catalogues”, and “children’s books and young adult”. Prize laureates for 2014 and 2015 will be shown in the exhibition seen by Chelyabinsk residents, who can also flip through them to appreciate the work and creativity of the designers who worked on these books. In Chelyabinsk, the exhibition is arriving from the Funds of the Center of German Books in Moscow, which is a representative of the Frankfurt Book Fair.
«Within the “Form of the Book” project, we were able to collect two key elements of the outer appearance of a beautiful publication – illustration and book design. The pieces of each of the project’s exhibits are unique samples of the illustrators’ and designers’ work, to which all people working in this field should compare. For the layman, these exhibitions are an opportunity to see the best samples and compare them to what they see in our book stores,” says Pavel Pisklakov, one of the organizers of the Chelyabinsk Project, senior teacher of the SUSU faculty of Service and Artistic Materials Processing Technology, and member of the international typographic association ATpl.
