Monograph by SUSU Scientists on “Information Warfare in the Digital Media Space” Wins National Award from the Russian Professorial Assembly

In Moscow, the results of the “Textbook of the Year” Annual National Award, organized by the Russian Professorial Assembly, have been announced. A research work by scientists from the Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities of South Ural State University has taken the first place in the “Political Science” nomination, confirming status of SUSU as one of our country’s leading research and education centres.

The first place in the “Monograph” category has been awarded to the collective work on “Information Warfare in the Digital Media Space”, edited by Director of the Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities, Doctor of Sciences (Philology), Professor Lidiya Lobodenko; Head of the Department of Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations, Doctor of Sciences (Philology), Professor Liudmila Shesterkina; and Candidate of Sciences (Philology), Associate Professor at the Department of Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations Anna Krasavina.

The monograph, published by the SUSU Publishing Centre in 2023 (Digital Civilization. Media Communications. Internet Marketing series, Issue 5), presents the results of a comprehensive analysis of information warfare as a set of measures aimed at achieving information superiority.

The authors not only identified the causes and origins of this phenomenon, but also proposed a relevant methodological framework for its study. The work’s particular value is that it relies on research practices from various social sciences and humanities, enabling a deeper understanding of the causes and consequences of contemporary domestic and international conflicts.

“This work is important for Russian science because it offers a systematic interpretation of a phenomenon that directly affects domestic processes and international relations today. The interdisciplinary approach allows for a multidimensional view of the problem, while the proposed methodology can be applied in both research and practical activities. Recognition at the level of the “Textbook of the Year” National Award confirms that such studies, carried out by specialists in media and communications, are truly in demand by the professional community and contribute to the development of national science,” notes Director of the Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities, Doctor of Sciences (Philology), Professor Lidiya Lobodenko.

The victory by the SUSU Institute research team in such a prestigious competition is a natural result of the scientists’ consistent work at the forefront of humanities research. By creating a fundamental study at the intersection of philology, history, political science, sociology, and media communications, the authors not only propose effective tools for analysing modern conflicts but also set a new direction for the Russian academic community.

Our congratulations to our researchers on this well-deserved award—another confirmation that South Ural science is capable of shaping the agenda and offering solutions relevant to our entire country.
