According to the results of the National Contest among Russian Cities, Chelyabinsk has become the holder of the “Russia’s Capital of Culture – 2027” honorary title. This decision was made by an expert jury at a gala ceremony at the “Russia” National Centre in Moscow.
In the first contest round, Chelyabinsk had become one of the eight finalists. In addition to Chelyabinsk, spectacular presentations were offered by Vologda, Kaluga, Novosibirsk, Ryazan, Sochi, Stavropol, and Ulyanovsk.
In his speech at the ceremony, Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region Alexey Texler stressed:
“I am representing our country’s stronghold region, South Urals, and Chelyabinsk, the city of Labour Valour. We have every right to be a candidate for holding the “Russia’s Capital of Culture” title. The Chelyabinsk Region is a region of absolute possibilities. It is a place, where every person can develop his or her potential. It is a land of three thousand lakes, taiga forests and high mountains. And amongst all that nature, there are modern cities and unique productions. Chelyabinsk is the capital of our lesser motherland and the heart of South Urals. It deserves to become Russia’s Capital of Culture in 2027!”
The contest experts comprehensively assessed the activity and quality of the cultural life, the scale and involvement of citizens in the national voting, the completeness and content of the application documents, the effectiveness of the information-and-promotion campaign, the creative nature of the self-presentation, and the audience’s follow-up.
The “Russia’s Capital of Culture” status will provide Chelyabinsk with new opportunities for development and popularization of our region’s cultural potential, as well as for implementation of a big-scale program of events.
The SUSU students and teaching staff members had actively participated in the voting. The future advertising specialists and journalists from the Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities had made several viral videos to support the voting, which had swept the social media and had gained dozens of thousands of views!
