On December 10th, a ceremony for the prize winners of the “SUSU’s Best Representatives 2025” annual award was held at South Ural State University. The best students from the fields of science, sports, social activities and volunteering were named. The jury experts honoured the most successful and talented students, who had made a significant contribution to the development of our university and its extracurricular activities.
The university Rector Alexander Wagner opened the awards ceremony with a welcome speech:
“The “SUSU’s Best Representatives” award is a good annual tradition, which has become one of the most important events for our university. Students express their individuality in various ways: sports victories, academic achievements, participation in volunteering or youth initiatives. Needless to say that it is mentors who encourage students to uncover their talents and help them reveal their skills. So, today, the best of them will take to this stage!”
This year’s award brought together 125 students from all the SUSU schools, institutes, college and branches, who had been demonstrating high achievements in studies, science, social activities, sports, and creativity. During one whole month, students had been presenting their unique achievements before the jury members.
“This is a very special event, which every student waits for during the whole academic year. Today, we will meet those, whom our university may surely be proud of: the best students, promising freshmen, active organizers and outstanding athletes,” shared the SUSU Vice-Rector for Student and Social Affairs Anastasiia Lapo. “We will hear the names of those, whose success and achievements will serve as the foundation for building the future of our university, our region and our country.”
According to the results of the contests, winners in the following categories were named: “Prospects of the Year”, “Talent of the Year”, “Athlete of the Year”, “Intellectual of the Year”, “Leader of the Year”, “Volunteer of the Year”, “Activist of the Year”, “International Student of the Year”, “College Student”, and “Student of the Year”.
Each year, “Student of the Year” is considered to be the grand category. Everyone felt the buzz and excitement while waiting to learn, whose name was written in the secret envelope. Olga Melnikova, student of the SUSU Institute of Engineering and Technology, became the grand prize winner and was deservedly awarded the “Student of the Year” title. Her hard work, striving to knowledge and active participation in the university life had made her a perfect role model for the whole student community.
In addition to that, in the special category “For the Contribution to the Youth Affairs Development”, certificates of appreciation and souvenirs were awarded to the SUSU teaching and administrative staff members, who are actively supporting students’ initiatives, helping develop the university projects, and are creating the conditions for revealing the potential of young people.
“This is a milestone and image-building event for our university, which allows the brightest students enjoy the well-deserved recognition and the triumph of their success,” noted Head of the SUSU Extracurricular Activities Office Svetlana Iudochkina.
The “SUSU’s Best Representatives” awards ceremony is held for the twelfth year in a row, and it invariably becomes a symbol of acknowledgement and support of talented students, inspiring them for outstanding achievements in most various spheres of life.
“I decided to participate since it has been a very productive year for me. Namely the “SUSU’s Best Representatives” award gave the impetus to my development in the extracurricular activities,” stressed Ivan Nikolsky, student of the SUSU Multidiscipline College.
