Unique biotechnology programmes
Biotechnology programmes of the Department of Food Technology and Biotechnology of the SUSU School of Medical Biology are unique since the educational process is focused on the needs of industrial production, which determines the high demand for graduates in the modern labour market. Theoretical basis of competencies is formed in specialized laboratories using cutting-edge equipment and is reinforced by practical skills at leading enterprises of the industry, in the Ural region and other regions of the Russian Federation. An interdisciplinary approach to organizing the educational process and close interaction with academic and industrial partners allow graduates to take leading positions in food industry enterprises, as well as in regional regulatory services and expert bodies.
19.03.01 Biotechnology Bachelor’s degree programme is practice-oriented, built on an interdisciplinary basis and aimed at training highly qualified specialists with modern knowledge in the fields of biotechnology, bioeconomics and ecotechnology to solve the problems of National Priorities. Advanced teaching methods and technologies are focused on the formation of a pool of competencies in the field of creating new bioproducts, solving environmental problems and developing innovative technological solutions for obtaining components for health preservation and active longevity. Applied scientific research in the field of ecobiotechnology is conducted together with industrial partners.
End-to-end practice-oriented training allows graduates to develop competencies for competitive advantages in the labour market and take the positions of bioengineers, biotechnologists at food production enterprises, R&D specialists, or researchers in scientific and educational organizations.
06.05.01 Bioengineering and Bioinformatics interdisciplinary academic programme was developed on the basis of modern knowledge in the field of biotechnology and bioinformatics, taking into account the National Priorities and requirements of potential employers. The training trajectories are formed considering the scientific and pedagogical experience of leading teachers of the School of Medical Biology, the Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science of SUSU (National Research University). Such an approach ensures the acquisition of fundamental knowledge in the fields of biology, information technology and engineering and forms practical skills in working with biological objects and systems based on their deep analysis and prediction of properties using the processing of the obtained metadata.
A bioengineer-bioinformatician specialist has a range of knowledge in the field of information technology, biology, microbiology and enzymology, engineering of biological objects. The professional activity of specialists is related to the modification of biological objects and systems, management of biosynthesis and biotransformation processes, construction and application of in silico predictive models of biotechnological and bioengineering processes.
19.04.01 Artificial Intelligence in Industrial and Environmental Biotechnologies innovative Master’s degree programme provides an opportunity to become a sought-after specialist with competencies in the application of artificial intelligence technologies to solve problems in the fields of ecology and industrial biotechnology. Objects of professional activity of graduates: technologies for biotransformation of bioresources; processing and analysis of ecomonitoring data using a computer vision system; management of biosafety of processes using diagnostic sensors and digital twin methods.
To develop professional competencies, we offer 19.03.02 Plant-Based Food Nutrition part-time programme aimed at training specialists in demand at processing enterprises of the agro-industrial complex and in the food industry. Students receive unique skills of managing innovative production using IT technologies, applying biotechnological methods of processing raw materials to obtain mass-market products, as well as functional and specialized products.

Graduates of psychology programmes are in high demand in educational, healthcare institutions, law enforcement agencies, and can also fulfil their potential in private practice.
37.03.01 Psychology Bachelor’s degree programme provides training of specialists who are able to implement psychological technologies aimed at preventing deviations in the social and personal status and development, in the functioning of people with disabilities; are able to conduct psychological research in various scientific and practical areas of psychology; have the skills to work with the organization’s personnel in order to select personnel and create a psychological climate.
Graduates of 37.05.02 Psychology of Occupational Activity (Management Psychology and Organizational Counselling) are able to provide invaluable assistance in recruiting personnel and teaching communication skills, resolving conflict situations and ensuring mental well-being in a team of employees.
37.05.01 Clinical Psychology (Clinical and Psychological Assistance to the Child and Family) academic programme is designed to meet the needs of the regional labour market, traditions and achievements of the university’s scientific and pedagogical school. In the process of mastering the programme, students get ready to solve psychodiagnostic; expert; research; advisory and correctional tasks of professional activity. Graduates are able to provide psychological assistance both in the conditions of clinics and medical centres, hospitals, and in educational institutions, social assistance to the population, and private practice.
37.04.01 Psychology (Counselling or Psychological Assistance: Correction and Counselling) Master’s degree programmes are aimed at expanding professional knowledge and skills of graduates in solving complex problems in the fields of education, health care, culture, sports, national defence, law, management and social assistance to the population.
During their training, students of the School of Medical Biology participate in numerous programs and projects related to scientific activities.
