Service industry keeps developing rapidly and is one of important sectors of national economy. Keeping up with the times, the SUSU School of Economics and Management performs training of qualified specialists on the specialty “Economics of Enterprises in the Sphere of Service, Recreation and Tourism”. One of the specialists is Maria Popkova, art manager of the Maximillians restaurant.
– Why did you choose the specialty of a restaurant service manager and enrolled in SUSU?
On October 21 and 22 in Beijing took place the Chinese International Education Exhibition called “China Education Expo” which for the 17th time gathers representatives of higher, professional and additional education from more than 40 countries such as Austria, Canada, Chile, Finland, Malaysia, and other. For the fourth time representatives of South Ural State University became participants of this exhibition. The exhibition was visited by more than 60 000 people.
At present, an innovative device, ECG-pillow, is being tested at an intensive therapy unit of one of the Chelyabinsk hospitals which would allow to perform ECG screening of the condition of bed-case patients and disabled people, as well as of newborn babies. The authors of this innovation are a team of scientists of the Institute of Sport, Tourism and Service at South Ural State University.
At the scheduled meeting of the Council of University Rectors of the Ural Federal District, the Rector of South Ural State University, Doctor of Engineering Sciences, Professor Alexander Shestakov was once again elected as the Council Chairman. The representatives of about 60 higher education institutions located in the Kurgan, Sverdlovsk, Tyumen and Chelyabinsk regions, as well as in the Khanty-Mansijsk Autonomous District and Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, are members of the Council of Rectors of the Ural Federal District.
The scientific and practical conference of the European Journalism Training Association (EJTA) called Journalism Education without Limits wrapped up at Lomonosov MSU (Moscow). In it participated teachers and researchers of mass media from universities in the USA, France, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Russia, and many other European countries.
On October 20th, the SUSU Faculty of Chemistry celebrated its anniversary – 10 years since the founding date. A concert was held in honor of this holiday in which the university administration, staff, students, and partners of faculty attended.

On October 17th a job and education fair was held at the Megapolis exhibition center as well as the round table entitled Meeting the Needs of the Chelyabinsk Region’s Economy with Labor Resources in which SUSU representatives participated.
Deputy Head of Directorate and Head of the Public Relations Management Department of the Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia, graduate of the SUSU Faculty of Journalism Pavel Bugrov on the Day of Advertising Worker told us about this sphere of activity and knowledge gained at the university, and gave an advice for today’s students. Pavel has experience of working as an air radio host at the South Ural STRBC, and as a PR-specialist at the Trubodetal OAO.
The Laboratory of Experimental Mechanics, which today is a part of the Public Research Institute for Test Mechanical Engineering, was established in South Ural State University in 2013. The laboratory helps SUSU scientists to solve scientific and research problems, and also conducts complex tests for industrial enterprises of the Chelyabinsk region and Russia.
On October 18, swimming competition took place at the Unica Sports School of South Ural State University.
The event is held annually, and this year it is the 10-years anniversary. According to the event’s organizer Marina Balakhonova, it brought us many young swimmers who entered the junior group.
Today, a 10-year project on creating a gallery of the people of the South Ural Region at the SUSU museum Peoples and Technologies of the Urals has wrapped up. Right now, our University is the owner of the largest collection of anthropological reconstructions of the ancient people of the region.

The Second International Science-to-Practice Conference “Measurement: Status and Prospects of Development” has been held at South Ural State University. In September Ekspert Analytical Center completed the first wave of studying the invention activity of the Russian universities. South Ural State University was listed among the top Russian universities at the fifth position in Section “Relevance of Intellectual Property Assets Created at the University” and at the ninth position in Section “Basic Conditions for Invention Activity”.

On October 17 and 18 the Blood Donor Day event, within the frameworks of which everyone who wants can donate blood, is to be held at South Ural State University.
Starting from today, a specially equipped mobile block-module of the blood transfusion station is positioned at the parking lot near the second SUSU building. On the second floor there is a consultancy point where future donors pass registration and consultation with a therapist.
