On October 25, a festival of alumni of the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities’ Faculty of Psychology took place at South Ural State University.
This day, the university brought together alumni of the Faculty of Psychology of all graduation years, starting from the first graduation in 2001.
In the modern world, when an avalanche of information noise comes crushing down at us, it is very difficult to distinct real facts from fake information. In a time like this, the role of qualitative journalism especially increases. Today, it is necessary to improve the level of trust to new media and impart the skills of fact checking to journalists. This is especially important for assessment of political statements’ accuracy.
Dean of the Faculty of Journalism, Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Doctor of Sciences (Philology), Liudmila Shesterkina took part in the 10th international scientific readings entitled “Mass Media and Mass Communications 2018” organised by Lomonosov MSU’s Faculty of Journalism.

Another science-to-practice conference of the European Journalism Training Association finished at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece). South Ural State University, which is an institutional member of the European Journalism Training Association, was represented at the Conference by Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Dean of the Faculty of Journalism, Liudmila Shesterkina, and Associate Professor of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Candidate of Sciences (Philology), Anna Krasavina.
Today, art spaces are moving more and more towards virtual spaces. Many museums in Russia and around the world have their own virtual twins. Of special note are literary museums. Without leaving your apartment, you can visit museums dedicated to Mikhail Bulgakov, Marina Tsvetaeva, and many other authors. In 2018 our university also joined the process of creating such virtual memorial house museums, as part of a focus on project-based learning.
On October 25, South Ural University is to organize a massive Psychology Festival, held on the occasion of the university’s 75th anniversary. The event organiser is the Faculty of Psychology of the SUSU Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities.
Starting from September of 2018, SUSU has been officially implementing project-based training within master’s studies. Project-based learning programmes are presented practically in all Schools and Institutes of SUSU.
Choosing a profession in many aspects determine a person’s future as well as his or her development and life quality. However, not everyone can answer the question of whom to become. In order to help university applicants and students to choose a sphere of professional activity, the Faculty of Psychology of the SUSU Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities is launching a project entitled “Digital Biometrical Twin of a Professional”.
On October 10 and 11, secondary school students of the Sovetsky District of Chelyabinsk got acquainted with South Ural State University in the Palace of Culture named after D.V. Kolyushchenko.
In the hall of the Palace, SUSU schools and institutes presented their sites, where students of 9th -11th grades could learn about the professions and the prospects of studying in these fields.
Two years ago, on October 3, 2016 the Office of Academic Writing began its work at SUSU in order to integrate the research and teaching staff of SUSU into the world’s academic community. The services that the Office offers are in big demand among the university employees, since absolutely free of charge the authors get a complex assistance from tutors and professional consultants at all stages of preparing their scientific publications: starting with consulting on choosing a journal and executing an article and ending with editing of its English version by a native speaker.
In 2018, South Ural State University is celebrating its 75th anniversary. Within this period, thousands of talented specialists have been trained in various spheres of scientific knowledge. One of the strongest schools of sciences established within the university is the SUSU Scientific School of Journalism.
On October 14, casting call for MISS URAL project, the major beauty contest of the Ural Federal District, is to start in our city. Among organisers of the scaleous project is a fourth-year student of the SUSU Institute of Social Science and Humanities, Daria Golub.
The university’s journalism club called “Media Generation” starts another season and invites for classes. This is already the 8th year in a row when school students who want to become journalists will be studying fundamentals of the profession of a journalist at SUSU.
Three important for media sphere workers events took place in Chelyabinsk from 11th through 13th of September: the 5th All-Russian Forum of Regional Mass Media entitled “Trajectory of the meaning: regional mass media on the way to efficiency and competitiveness”; “Inforoom” of the Russian Union of Journalists, and the 20th Festival of Mass Media of the Chelyabinsk region. One of the events’ venues was South Ural State University.

Graduate of the SUSU Department of Russian Language and Literature, Natalia Dubovaya debuted as a scriptwriter and creative producer of the Russian movie The Mermaid. Lake of the Dead, which got released on July 12. Natalia told us about the idea to create the movie, the process of filming, and the role of SUSU in her professional becoming.
