The Day of Slavic Writing is celebrated on May 24th . This is a holiday dedicated to Kirill and Methodius, who were the creators of the first Cyrillic alphabet. Today, Russian is also studied by international students. When summer is near, students begin preparing for their exams and tests with more zeal, so that after that they were free to go travelling to other cities or countries, tan and swim, walk with their friends, and just relax. South Ural State University’s international students shared their grand plans for the summer.

On this occasion South Ural State University will hold a “Be Happy, My Land!” concert by Primavera mixed academic choir headed by choir master Aleksey Prosekov. Also the SUSU Studio of the Art of Declamation under guidance by Elena Vasiltseva will take part in the event.
Very soon South Ural State University will open its doors for the enrollees. Over the last year this leading university of Russia did much work on improving its standing in Russian and international rankings as a member of a prestigious Project 5-100. The University underwent rebranding, and jointly with its industrial partners (SMS Group, Siemens, Kaspersky Laboratory) new training and research laboratories were opened. In 2018 the university keeps successfully moving along the way of digital transformation.

Master’s student of the SUSU School of Electrical Engineering and Computer ScienceIvan Volkov developed a mobile application DiaMeter several years ago. The application makes it possible for diabetics to keep a convenient electronic diary. At present, a second, more fine-tuned version of the application which will include a carbohydrate unit calculator is being completed.
A team of students from the Polytechnic Institute, the School of Economics and Management and the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities has started joint work on a big-scale international project called Formula Student (SAE).
This year, South Ural State University has gained its own Tretyakovka (short for Tretyakov gallery), where students who love art can gather and promote it among people. On May 21st, the second round of student assessment of the quality of work of the university teachers will begin at SUSU. The evaluation is part of the 5-100 Competitiveness Enhancement Program being fulfilled at the university.
Museum Day is celebrated around the world on May 18th. This date was officially made a holiday in 1977 and was becoming more and more popular ever since. SUSU features more than 10 exhibition venues and museums, so traditionally special events for students are held here on this day.
On May 18th an experimental archaeology master class will be held at Museum of Peoples and Technologies of the Ural Region. It will be delivered by a research fellow of the SUSU Research and Education Center for Eurasian Studies and Head of the Archeos Project Ivan Semyan.
In 2018 enrollees were accepted to the Bachelor’s, Specialist and Master’s programs of the Polytechnic Institute under 42 fields of training. The Polytechnic Institute offers over 1,000 state-funded places, as well as more than 500 places on fee-paying basis under intramural and extramural forms of studies.
In 2018, South Ural State University will celebrate 75 years since its founding. On May 17th, the holiday “SUSU, a University of Sport” dedicated to this anniversary will be organized by the Institute of Sport, Tourism, and Service with the Office of Mass Sporting Events and the Russian Physical Culture and Sport System “Ready for Labor and Defense” (Gotov k trudu i oborone, “GTO”).
On May 15th, the opening of the annual Prom-Engineering International Scientific and Technical Conference dedicated to discussion of modern achievements in industrial engineering was held at three venues simultaneously: SUSU, Moscow Polytechnic Institute, and Platov South Russian State Polytechnic University (Novocherkassk). Senior lecturer of the SUSU Department of Foreign Languages, coordinator of the academic programs of the Office of Academic Writing, lecturer of courses on academic writing Ekaterina Nenakhova took part in a two-day training session on the development of professional competences in academic writing.
More than 100 students and postgraduate students participated in a contest for grants and scholarships offered by the company Coca-Cola HBC Russia and South Ural State University. The participants completed assignments in several rounds and developed business projects for popularizing one of the company’s products.
In 1990, by the initiative of Cambridge University and Salamanca University, the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE) was created. At present, the Association performs unified control in holding certification exams on foreign languages. There are 19 national testing systems within ALTE.
May 11th through 13th the IT School of the Ural Federal District, being a round of the All-Russian IT-START Program in progress since 2012, was held in Tyumen.
IT-Start is a series of training sessions, where every participant may go all the way from coming up with an idea to fulfilling a project. Moreover, they give a chance to communicate with fellow-thinkers and the market leaders, consult the experts, and obtain assessments by specialists. The most promising projects will be provided with support and follow-up.
On May 14th an opening ceremony of Ecology&Arts Exhibition of paintings, photography and graphic arts was held at SUSU. Over 70 works of art united into theme blocks are exhibited there.
