Virtual Slippers and Digital Dumplings: Programmers from Chelyabinsk Created a Computer Game Based on Nikolai Gogol's Novel

Young scientists from SUSU developed a computer game inspired by the literary works of Nikolai Gogol. It is based on the text of the Christmas Eve novel. This type of digital entertainment belongs to the genre of "virtual novels". Players can follow the unfolding events, and can even change how the story ends.

A young scientist and Senior Research Fellow from the SUSU Laboratory for High-entropy Materials Majid Naseri is 36. However, the articles, where he acts as a co-author, are nearly every month published in the world's major scientific journals, such as Journal of Alloys and Compounds, or Intermetallics. He is working on the problem of creating high-entropy alloys. These are the alloys based on five or more metals, each of which adds to specific properties. And for his research he also uses some "top-notch" mathematics: automata theory, modern geometry, and fuzzy logic.

Modern South Ural region is well known not only for its metropolises, but for its mono-industry towns as well. An iron and steel works is a town-forming enterprise, in the suburbs of which mines are located to produce ore and coal, and on the outskirts – a forest of high-rise residential districts and, of course…a cemetery.

Surprising as it may seem, but something similar could be found in our area already back in the Bronze Age. For example, an ancient mine Vorovskaya Yama (Thieves’ Pit), discovered by Gennady Zdanovich, Viktor Zaykov and Anatoly Yuminov in the early 1990s.

Historic Event for City and Region: Grand Opening Ceremony for World-class Inter-university Campus Took Place in Chelyabinsk

As part of the Science and Universities project, which is being implemented upon instructions of the President of the Russian Federation, students from leading universities in Chelyabinsk have gained access to modern and comfortable spaces – they have moved into new hostels. The Inter-university Campus unites seven universities in our city. This figure has become symbolic: the buildings are opening in the Year of the Family, they have seven floors, and in the future, seven more facilities will be built.

Working Meeting with the Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Held at SUSU

Deputy Minister of Science of the Russian Federation Andrey Omelchuk arrived in the Chelyabinsk Region on a business visit. The main goal of the visit was to monitor the progress of construction of the Inter-University Campus. SUSU Construction Team among the Leaders of the Peaceful Atom All-Russian Student Construction Works

The closing ceremony of the anniversary Tenth Peaceful Atom All-Russian Student Construction Works has been held in Ozyorsk. This summer, the labour project united 550 team members of Russian student teams including 48 teams from 23 regions. At the end of the season, the team of South Ural State University was named among the best ones.

SUSU and Metran Will Become Curators of New Governor's Engineering Class

Representatives of South Ural State University and Metran Industrial Group, the management and teachers of Computer Science and Mathematics of the Academic Lyceum No. 95 of the city of Chelyabinsk discussed the implementation of the Governor's Engineering Classes project.

The Lyceum has won this competition for the second year in a row. This year, the 10-1 class with advanced study of Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science has become a participant in this program. Its educational activities will be supervised by SUSU and Metran.

Glinka Yakov Korsunsky (1932-1986).

Master from Arkaim: Wandering Metallurgist

SUSU archaeologists discovered an interesting find, a burial of a “wandering metallurgist”, dated back to the Bronze Age. It was found during excavations at burials of the Sintashta culture in the area of Krivoye Ozero in the Troitsky District of the Chelyabinsk Region. The result was published in the international journal “Archaeological and Anthropological Sciences” of the Springer Verlag publishing house. The research was supported by a grant from the Russian Science Foundation.
