On its Birthday Anniversary, our university resumed a nice tradition of awarding its staff members, who have made a special contribution into development of SUSU, as well as have been successfully solving the most challenging and important duty- and production-related tasks.

SUSU Scientists Monitor Environment from Space

For the first time in Russia, SUSU scientists, jointly with their colleagues from the Chelyabinsk Centre for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring and the Yakutsk Scientific Centre of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences – Institute of Physical and Technical Problems of the North, are implementing a big-scale project to develop and use methods of remote sensing from space to monitor environmental pollution.

“SUSU’s 82 Years on the Move”: Festivities Concert Held at the University

On December 15th, South Ural State University celebrated its 82nd birthday! This is a special day for everyone related to SUSU: students, alumni and the teaching and administrative staff members.

As part of the “SUSU’s 82 Years on the Move!” festivities program, guests enjoyed vibrant creative performances by student teams and musical surprises from the Recreation Centre.

Chelyabinsk Is Russia’s Capital of Culture – 2027!

According to the results of the National Contest among Russian Cities, Chelyabinsk has become the holder of the “Russia’s Capital of Culture – 2027” honorary title. This decision was made by an expert jury at a gala ceremony at the “Russia” National Centre in Moscow.

In the first contest round, Chelyabinsk had become one of the eight finalists. In addition to Chelyabinsk, spectacular presentations were offered by Vologda, Kaluga, Novosibirsk, Ryazan, Sochi, Stavropol, and Ulyanovsk.

SUSU Scientists Effectively Automate the Balancing of Rotor Structures

A unique device for dynamically balancing of rotor structures has been developed by researchers of South Ural State University. The invention will help compensate for the deviations in rotor operation without interrupting the production process.

The development by the SUSU researchers is a bright example of technology transfer from the aerospace industry to general mechanical engineering. Their new device is applicable to rotating structures such as large turbines, machine tool rotors, shafts, and propellers.

“Digital Ural” Forum Is Being Held at SUSU

December 11th–13th, a “Digital Ural: Digital Transformation Technologies” Education-and-Practice Forum is being held at the Sigma academic building of South Ural State University.

Among the forum participants are mainly students of the “Digital Ural” Centre for Training Top IT Specialists. This Centre was created so that students in parallel to their training had a chance to communicate with the SUSU industrial partners and participate in solving real production and business tasks.

“Only the Best of the Best”: Awarding Ceremony for the Prize Winners of the “SUSU’s Best Representatives 2025”

On December 10th, a ceremony for the prize winners of the “SUSU’s Best Representatives 2025” annual award was held at South Ural State University. The best students from the fields of science, sports, social activities and volunteering were named. The jury experts honoured the most successful and talented students, who had made a significant contribution to the development of our university and its extracurricular activities.

SUSU Scientists Develop a Multifunctional Robot Operated without Internet or GPS

Scientists from South Ural State University have patented a design of a robot that can be used as a delivery robot, home security guard, or to explore hazardous areas, and descend into mines. A unique SPPA program specifically developed for simulating robotic movements in confined spaces allows for fully automated robotic movements without connection to the Internet or GPS.

The unique SPPA control algorithm means that the robot can think like a human and includes four principles: S – sense, P – perceive, P – plan, A – act.

A meeting between Sociology and Political Science students and Roman Vollert, Deputy Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region, has been held at South Ural State University. The event was held in the format of an open dialogue, where the future specialists were able to directly ask questions to the regional government official and discuss current issues and trends in their professional field.

Volunteer Day is celebrated in Russia on December 5th. The date was established by a decree of the President of the Russian Federation on November 27, 2017. Family of a SUSU Professor Will Represent our Region at Competition Finals in Moscow

The district semi-final of the "It Is in Our Family" all-Russian competition was held in Yekaterinburg November 27th through 29th. The family of Dmitry Ardashev, a father of five children and Professor at the SUSU Department of Automated Mechanical Engineering, won the Ural Federal District semi-final. The Ardashevs will now represent the Chelyabinsk Region in the competition finals, which will take place in Moscow in the summer of 2026.

Teaching Staff of the Institute of Linguistics and International Communications Participate in the “Meaning Creators. DNA of Russia” Program

Teaching staff members of the Department of International Relations, Politology and Regional Studies of the SUSU Institute of Linguistics and International Communications Maksim Dvoinenko and Nataliia Khomutova have become participants of the “Meaning Creators. DNA of Russia” federal program.

First Software for a Russian "Amur" Microcontroller Created at SUSU

In 2023, a number of domestically produced microcontrollers, similar to imported ones, were engineered in Russia. These microcontrollers are used to control electromechanical systems. One of such models, MIK32 "Amur", has been used for the first time in our country by researchers from the SUSU Electromechanical, Electronic and Electrochemical Systems Regional Youth Laboratory to control a three-phase AC electric motor. A special computer program for controlling the AC motor with the MIK32 "Amur" microcontroller has been patented.

On December 4th, the 10th International Scientific Conference “Innovations in Sport, Tourism and Education – icISTIS-2025” started at South Ural State University. The conference is traditionally organized by the SUSU Institute of Sport, Tourism and Service (ISTiS).

During the grand opening of the conference, Deputy Minister of Sports of the Chelyabinsk Region Vitaly Yakushev awarded the team of the U-phygital project for winning a grant competition by Rosmolodezh agency.

SUSU Archaeologists Discover What Kind of Travellers Took Shelter in Caves near the Sim River

Director of the SUSU Eurasian Studies Research and Education Centre and specialist on the early Iron Age archaeology Aleksandr Tairov has shared at the “Ananyino World” Forum in Yelabuga on what mysteries of nomads’ routes they managed to unravel thanks to the finds in the S.M. Prokudin-Gorsky cavern and cave and in other caves in the South Ural region.

SUSU Scientists Develop a “Smart” Fire Extinguishing System with Thermal Imaging Camera

Master’s student from the SUSU Institute of Engineering and Technology Nikita Ponomarev together with scientists of the SUSU Department of Life Safety Saidzhon Tavarov and Aleksandr Sidorov, have received a patent for a hybrid system for monitoring and controlling an automatic aerosol fire extinguishing system.

Aerosol fire extinguishing systems are currently used at vehicle service stations, technical centres, and auto assembly plants. However, they are normally triggered by open flames. In such cases, fire can develop rapidly and unpredictably.
