On October 23rd, a master class by Nitesh Kumar Upadhyay, Doctor of Sciences (Law), Associate Professor at the Law Department of Symbiosis University (India), consultant at the SUSU Institute of Law, was held at South Ural State University.
Nitesh Kumar Upadhyay has numerous fellowships and grants including from such institutions as GAJE (Turkey), ILEC (New York), and HAGUE Academy (the Netherlands). His presentation was devoted to the topic of developing research competencies and career opportunities.
“The Big Urals” International Tourism Forum opened at the “Domna” Centre for Creative Industries in Yekaterinburg on October 18th. This event brought together experts and practitioners to discuss current issues of tourism development at the regional, national and international levels. Within the frameworks of the forum three panel discussions, strategic and discussion sessions, a master class, a talk show, a case session and a conference were organized.
Head of the Department of Machines and Processes of Pressure Metal Working, Doctor of Sciences (Engineering), Professor Aleksandr Vydrin, as part of the “Development of Digital Twins of Cold Pressure Processing of Composite Materials” technical assignment for the Intelligent Manufacturing project, together with his team, developed a technology of improving the reliability of the welding process. The Institute of Linguistics and International Communications took part in the All-Russian Scientific Conference with international participation "Theoretical Semantics and Ideographic Lexicography: Dictionary. Discourse. Corpus", dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Department of Fundamental and Applied Linguistics and Text Science of the Ural Federal University (UrFU), where the event was held.
South Ural State University and Ural Federal University have a long-standing friendship and common scientific interests in studying the phenomena of language and speech.
On October 22nd, the Health Day annual event was held at South Ural State University. The university students were able to become blood donors, undergo rapid testing for HIV/AIDS, and also take part in master classes from medical volunteers.
The event was organized by the SUSU Extracurricular Activities Office. It is worth noting that Health Day is held annually and collects a large number of positive responses from students who help patients of many hospitals.
On October 22nd, a ceremony of opening a new student cafe IntellektUm was held on the 3rd floor of the academic building No.3 of South Ural State University.
The Institute of Sport, Tourism and Service, and its Department of Production Technology and Catering Organization, suggested the idea of creating the IntellektUm innovative student cafe and helped put it into life. The cafe was opened by the SUSU Rector Alexander Wagner, the university President Aleksandr Shestakov and the Institute Director Vadim Erlikh.
October 22nd-25th, a big scientific forum on quantum technologies, David Klyshko Seminar, will be held at the Convention Hall of the Council of South Ural State University. This event is being organized by SUSU jointly with the Quantum Technology Centre, Department of Quantum Electronics of the Faculty of Physics of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, and with the support from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

Scientists from South Ural State University have developed a software package for detecting structural defects in transparent products. First experiments were conducted on glass insulators, which are used in high-voltage power lines. The technology can be applied at any enterprise where glass products of complex shapes are manufactured, which will allow to assess their quality without destructive external influence.

On October 16th, the exhibition “City as a Theatre: Architectural Heritage of the Creator” opened in the university’s Art Gallery. It is dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the birth of the Honoured Architect of the Russian Federation, Professor of the SUSU Department of Architecture Boris Baranov (1939–2021).
On day two of the All-Russian Children's Ecological Forum, an exhibition was organized, in which South Ural State University also took part. For young guests, SUSU representatives held master classes and games, and also introduced them to the scientific achievements of the university in the field of ecology.
At the SUSU's "School 21", pupils from Chelyabinsk schools met Nikita Marchenkov, the Chairman of the Coordination Council for Youth Affairs in Science and Education of the Russian Federation Presidential Council for Science and Education.
The meeting was attended by twenty three school kids of the 8th-10th forms: part of them were representing the Governor's engineering class of the Chelyabinsk Lyceum No.11, and another part were members of the Movement of the First project from Lyceum No.148.
Opening ceremony for the Employers Assembly was held at South Ural State University on October16th. This is an annual big-scale project on development of interaction between the university and leading enterprises of our region and Russia.
The SUSU Employers Assembly is a unique event that is organised at the university in a "school-university-enterprise" format for the 9th time. This year, representatives of 60 employers from all over the country will meet the participants.
A method for making bread from sprouted barley has been patented by researchers from the SUSU School of Medical Biology. Barley (commonly known as pearl barley) is considered the oldest cultivated plant and is even mentioned in the Bible. Bread obtained at the university has high antioxidant activity and is baked thirty minutes faster.
On October 16th, as part of the Employers Assembly at SUSU, meetings, master classes and business games were held with representatives of 60 enterprises from all over our country.

The All-Russian forum Yugra International 2024 wrapped up at Nizhnevartovsk State University. The event brought together 100 students, including 70 international students obtaining their education at Russian universities.

Ekaterina Urbakh, a postgraduate student majoring in Electrotechnical Complexes and Systems from South Ural State University, represented the Chelyabinsk Region in the contest as a teacher of the Smena educational complex; her team took the second place in the Internet of Things category.
On October 15th, an extended meeting of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of the Chelyabinsk Region was held in the conference room of the University Council of South Ural State University. The event was chaired by the Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region Alexey Texler and the Chairman of the Coordination Council for Youth Affairs in Science and Education of the Russian Federation Presidential Council for Science and Education, an employee of the Kurchatov Institute Nikita Marchenkov. The SUSU Rector Alexander Wagner moderated the meeting.
On day one of the All-Russian Children’s Ecological Forum, the participants met at a science-to-practice conference to present their projects.
Among the participants of the science-to-practice conference were 3500 school pupils of the 5th–11th forms. They defended around 200 reports. As part of the Children’s Ecological Forum, such a conference gives an opportunity to exchange experience, meet fellow-thinkers and compete for the victory in 18 categories. Winners receive support for the fulfilment of their ecological projects.
