New Year is a special holiday for every person. But all nations have their own traditions of celebrating it, with specific sacral meaning. We have talked to Ruxue Wang, one of our students from China, and learned how this holiday is celebrated in her home country.
– New Year is celebrated in your country in February. So, while you live in Russia, you get a chance to celebrate it twice?

Postgraduates and teaching staff members from the Institute of Linguistics and International Communications took part in the First Eurasian Congress of Linguists, which has wrapped up its work in Moscow. Christmas Blues New Year's concert, which featured performers from the SUSU jazz orchestra and the Baby Jazz municipal children jazz studio, was held at South Ural State University Assembly Hall on December 20th.
The concert was inspired to be organised by musician and composer, founder and artistic director of the jazz orchestra of the SUSU Recreation Centre Georgiy Anokhin. He has been engaged in this activity for over 20 years and has been shaping the musical taste of residents of our city. People have been getting to know good jazz music for many years now.

South Ural State University has celebrated its 81st anniversary. Marking this event, the Chelyabinsk State Philharmonic Hall prepared a gift: a “Bird of Happiness” symphonic music concert by the Ural Brass Orchestra and soloists of the Philharmonic Hall.

The first Russian Student Broadcasting Television and Radio Company SUSU-TV is turning 20 years old. In honour of the anniversary, our university held a special session dedicated to the development of student television: "University Television and Radio Company SUSU-TV: From Student Television to a Regional Media Centre".

– How did the idea of creating a university television and radio company come about?
As part of the Vsegda ryadom (Always Nearby) campaign, 80 tons of food were delivered to the Kursk Region. The organizers of the humanitarian campaign are the SoyuzMash Russian Engineering Union and the League for Assistance to Defence Enterprises with the support of the Rostekh State Corporation.
The Chairman of the Kursk regional branch of SoyuzMash, General Director of the V.V. Tarasov Aviaavtomatika company, which is part of the KRET Rostekh State Corporation, Aleksandr Popov personally handed over the cargo to the Acting Governor of the region Aleksandr Khinshtein.
A ceremonial gathering of scientific dynasties of the South Ural region was organised at the Chelyabinsk Region Government Administration on December 16th. 12 scientific dynasties from 6 leading universities, including from South Ural State University, took part in the awarding ceremony.

Within the frameworks of the project on the "Development of New Quantum Technologies for Estimating Unknown Parameters", specialists of the SUSU Quantum Engineering of Light Laboratory work on creating a sensor for measuring small displacements and related physical quantities.
The developments within the frameworks of this project are led by the head of the SUSU Quantum Engineering of Light Laboratory and scientific director of the Quantum Technology Centre of M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University, Doctor of Sciences (Physics and Mathematics), Professor Sergey Kulik.
