Personal Virtual Computer Created at SUSU

Implementation of innovative technologies in the education process made it maximally available and efficient. One of the outstanding examples is the Personal Virtual Computer created within the SUSU School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

“Personal Virtual Computer is a unique system which allows access to all software necessary for education. Besides, students of South Ural State University can use the supercomputer’s possibilities in any part of the world. Each user of the program has his own login and password; a person can work with the system’s resources from any device, including mobile phone,” notes Director of the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS), Candidate of Sciences (Physics and Mathematics), Associate Professor Gleb Radchenko.

There are three supercomputers at the Supercomputer Simulation Laboratory, one of which nowadays is the 9th among all supercomputers of Russia by its power. Students of the School use possibilities of the international Laboratory when solving problems connected with high-performance calculations. In total, there are more than 30 laboratories operating within the EECS, which are equipped with unique devices in the sphere of control systems, radio electronics, automation means and electronic computational systems.

Specialties of the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science are popular among both Russian and foreign university applicants. Nowadays among the EECS’s students are students from Vietnam, China, USA, Egypt, Iraq and many others.

“The main advantage for both Russian and international students who decided to study in our School is a unique experience which they won’t get anywhere else,” emphasizes Gleb Igorevich. “Education programs of our university are strongly industry-oriented. The leading companies and enterprises supplying their products all around the world are located nearby. Chelyabinsk is one of the largest industrial centers not only in Russia but also in the world.”

Students are also attracted by a combination of optimal tuition fee and high quality of education at the EECS’s specialties, and the worthy university’s positions in international rankings («Webometrics Ranking of World Universities», «Round University Ranking (RUR)» etc.). Moreover, the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science implements dual-degree programs and programs of dual mentorship with one of the leading universities of Finland.

“I chose South Ural State University because it cooperates with Chinese and Finland universities,” says a School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science’s student from India, Mani Shanker Chaubey. “I am planning on studying at Finland during my second year of Master’s degree study. I am happy to have the opportunity to continue my study in Europe. Here I got everything that I expected. Teachers give us excellent knowledge in all subjects. I am very happy to have chosen SUSU. Now I am studying Russian myself and it is very difficult. After finishing my Master’s degree study on the program of Information Technologies and Communication Systems, I am planning on returning to India and keep working with software.”

Aside from educational activity, EECS students get actively involved in various vocational events. Among them, the most interesting one is Global Game Jam – the hackathon in computer games development which is held in January each year around the world. Each team’s challenge is to create a unique computer game in 48 hours. At the present time, SUSU is the largest-in-Russia venue for holding the hackathon. EECS students take active participation in various events and find the use of their professional skills in creative activity as well.

Graduates of the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science are in-demand specialists in the labor market not only in Russia but also abroad. Nowadays they are working in the leading international IT companies whose scope of activity lies in developing informational technologies, products in the sphere of informational security, etc. Besides, among the graduates there are talented entrepreneurs who became founders of successful companies. Therefore, South Ural State University creates around itself a group of innovative enterprises which nowadays are implementing the most in-demand projects.
