Russian as a Foreign Language Foreign Languages International Relations and Regional Studies Linguistics and Translation

In 2015 at the Aalborg University (Denmark), the first meeting of the international committee for the project "Joint Programs and Framework for Doctoral Education in Software Engineering" was held (or PWs@PhD). The program is realized within the international program Erasmus+. The main goal of the project is the development of international cooperation in software engineering in higher education. Within the project, SUSU postgrads who are preparing dissertations in the area of software engineering will have the chance in the 2016-2018 academic years to attend 7 international schools in 6 countries. The main goal of the PWs@PhD project is to organize a series of scientific schools in various aspects of software engineering from 2016 to 2018. Every six months, at one of the universities included in the consortium, there will be a 2-week school for postgraduate students from all of the partner universities. Within these schools, postgraduates and their research advisers will be offered courses in advanced methods of software engineering and also reviews of best practices for the implementation of research projects and the preparation of quality scientific publications on topics of software engineering, including such areas as: Research methods in the age of Software as a Service; Advanced methods and tools of software engineering; Problem-oriented training in the field of software engineering; Human-computer interaction in software engineering; Models of software engineering and simulation; Mathematical and computational foundations of software engineering; Software engineering: a view from economic and business perspectives. The first of such schools was held in March/April 2016 at the Lappeenranta University of Technology (Finland) and was dedicated to the topic of scientific research methods in the preparation of publications on research results in the area of software engineering. It is planned that LUT will be visited by 25 postgraduate students and 10 professors of partner universities as part of the school. The SUSU School of Electronics and Computer Sciences is also one of the leading partners in this project and is responsible for the organization of the school “Mathematic and computational foundations of software engineering” (being held in the 2nd quarter of 2017). The university’s participation in this project enables the activation of international partnership between postgraduate students and university’s scientific schools, strengthens the partnership between regional and international IT industries with the best graduates and leading researchers, enables the opportunity to found programs for dual postgraduate programs in the area of software engineering with international partners. Also as part of the work of the consortium, professor and director of the scientific research laboratory in software engineering, École de Technologie Supérieure (ETS) (The University of Quebec, Canada) Alain Abran, presented the international standard SWEBOK (Software Engineering Body of Knowledge). SWEBOK is a collection of common knowledge about the process of software engineering. Authors identified 15 areas of knowledge, summarizing the general concepts, technologies, and methods which a specialist in the area of software engineering must have mastery over. This project aims to define the necessary set of knowledge and recommended practices for specialists in the area of software development, define the ethical and professional norms, and also define the academic program for students, postgrads, and specialists in the area of software engineering who are continuing their education. As part of the work in the PWs@PhD project, organizers of the schools will consider the main topics and areas of knowledge proposed in SWEBOK, and will also work closely with the collective of editors of this standard to ensure the highest quality of training for postgrads in the area of software engineering.  

General information On April 8th 2014 a contract was signed for academic partnership between South Ural State University and Lappeenranta University of Technology (Finland). Now, master’s students with excellent knowledge of their profile disciplines and the English language have a chance to study abroad for the second year of the master’s program (the 3rd and 4th semesters) at the Lappeenranta University of Technology in two areas of study. Software Engineering; Intelligent Computing, Computer Vision profile. The agreement between SUSU and LUT is a dual degree program and includes the writing of a master’s dissertation in English under the guidance of scientific advisers from both universities. As a result of program, the graduate will receive two international-format degrees from the South Ural State University and from the Lappeenranta University of Technology. For participation in the program, applicants must: Enter the master’s program of the School of Electronics and Computer Sciences in the areas “Technology without data” or “Techniques developing computer games”; Have a high average score in area courses, preferably a “red” bachelor’s diploma; Undergo an international exam and receive a certificate of English language (minimum TOEFL 80 iBT/550 PBT, IELTS Academic 6.0, PTE Academic 54, CAE or CPE level A, B or C); Successfully complete an interview for the master’s program with representatives of the Lappeenranta University of Technology.  Applications are accepted from December to February of the first year of master’s degree study. Admission is in May. In such case, even housing can be paid. Housing expenses are roughly 700 euro a month. LUT representatives help in searching for housing during the course of education.    

The Laboratories of the School of Electronics and Computer Sciences is a world-class laboratory formed together with industrial leaders in the area of electronics and control systems. Intelligent measurement tools laboratory The laboratory of the industrial group “METAN” was founded in the department of Informational Measurement Technologies and is a modern academic complex necessary for the study of the newest means of automating the control of technological processes and industrial units for metering thermal energy. The laboratory is used in courses “Intelligent measurement tools” and “Measurement and metering of heat-carrying mediums”. The laboratory includes intelligent sensors for pressure and temperature with 4-10/HART output and flow sensors with analog and digital output. The laboratory contains the necessary functional apparatus for the building of typical units for metering thermal energy and the circuit for controlling technological processes. The laboratory includes all necessary tools for verifying sensors for temperature and pressure. In completing laboratory work students become acquainted with a wide range of modern tools used in the manufacture of instrumentation. The laboratory includes computer stations which realize the joint work of the metering channel with the computer. Students master the programming of system, local, and instrument interfaces and the interfaces of peripheral equipment. Intelligent measurement systems laboratory The laboratory is founded from the newest tools from world leaders in the manufacture of automation tools, Emerson Process Management (USA) and ZAO Industrial Group “Metran” (Russia). The laboratory is divided into two parts. One is the location for laboratory stations and the second for the simultaneous education of 12 students. The education zone is equipped with six work stations with personal computers and a work station for the instructor. The laboratory installation has two hydraulic circuits and allows for the control of temperature, pressure, flow, and fluid level within these circuits. In addition, this installation allows for the regulation of the temperature of the internal space from radiators included in the system’s hydraulic circuit. This laboratory system imitates a system of energy metering and energy regulation in enclosures. The system is built with the use of intelligent field instruments which are connected to the DeltaV system controllers by fieldbus. The intelligence of the instruments implies wide functions of self-diagnostics and the ability to shift control to separate elements of the system on the field level. The functional possibilities of the FOUNDATION Fieldbus allow to grant control functions to the system element which will most effectively realize them, which reduces the controllers’ workload and increases system reliability as a whole.   Control and navigation laboratory The goal of the laboratory is to enable laboratory lessons for students with the specialties “Aircraft control systems”, “Automated systems of processing information and control” and the master’s program, “Theory and mathematical methods of systemic analysis and management in technical systems,” and also enable the execution of experimental scientific research in navigation and movement control. Tasks completed in the laboratory For the academic process: Laboratory lessons in the following topics: Study of the operations of sensors of non-platform inertial navigation systems (NINS); Study of NINS operations; Determining inaccuracies of NINS sensors; Determining NINS inaccuracies.  For research work: Testing the developed NINS to control its operation algorithm; Testing the developed NINS to determine inaccuracies of its sensors;  Testing the developed NINS to determine its accuracy.   Informatics and control laboratory This laboratory is organized in the department of control systems as a result of the execution of work within the national project and includes 10 laboratory stations at 20 work places. The goal of the laboratory is to enable lab work in “Organization of computers and systems”, “Programming in high level languages”, “Systems of real time” courses, and also the provision of a laboratory base for executing scientific research work in the digital control of industrial machines and actuators. Tasks completed in the laboratory:  For the academic process: Laboratory work in the following topics:   Microcontroller programming; The use of microcontrollers’ internal settings; Work with external digital signals; Work with external analog devices; Synchronizing time and events of processes; The use of IBM-compatible computers for the control of technological instruments.   For scientific work: The use of laboratory instruments to measure electrical and temporal values; The use of laboratory station microcontrollers to debug control programs and programs for gathering sensor information; The creation of measurement and control complexes using IBM-compatible computers and microcontrollers of robotized control systems. The workplaces are equipped with the lab stations “Programming microcontrollers of the firm Atmel ATMega8535” and “Programming microcontrollers of the firm MicroChip”. Each lab station contains: a personal computer, lab installation “NEC microcontroller”, oscilloscope GDS-620, signal generator GFG-8215A, power supply HY3005D-2. Laboratory of automation and control of technological processes  The laboratory was opened as part of a joint academic project with leading manufacturers of instruments of industrial automation and control and measurement instruments, Swiss company “Endress+Hauser”. The laboratory is fitted with high-class, modern industrial equipment. The central space of the laboratory is occupied by a full-size laboratory installation for simulating thermal energy systems, which executes a full cycle of the technological process and includes subsystems for the generation, transport, and use of thermal energy, and also a chemical treatment system. The main function of the laboratory is the education of the university’s students in disciplines connected to industrial automation and the control of technological processes. The new laboratory gives students the chance to receive modern, world-class technical education, become acquainted with modern industrial resolutions in the area of controlling technological processes and master technical skills of installation and operation of modern control measurement instruments and means of automation from the world’s leading producer.
