SUSU Student Takes Gold in International Competition in Anapa

Students from the SUSU Uralsky Sokol (Ural Falcon) Sports Club showed excellent results in kettlebell sport in a physical culture festival in Anapa. Kamil Yusupov took first place in the category of under 73kg, Danila Sedin – the 4th place, and Anatoly Mikhailov – the 5th place.

The athletes got themselves ready for this competition in just over two weeks.

Specialists of the company, CNC machine servicemen, will learn the basics of hydraulics, tribology, electric drives, CNC measuring systems, and the basics of advanced programming language.

EUcheck International Journalism Project

Project Head Lyudmila Shesterkina, D.Sc. (Philology), Associate Professor Department Department of Journalism and Mass Communications Objective Establishing a network of Journalism Schools (J-schools) in order to improve quality of political debates in European mass media and promote active participation of citizens in this process at all levels Tasks General objectives: Supporting training of journalists and qualitative journalism, simultaneously increasing trust to new media; Contributing to accuracy of European political statements provided by mass media and politicians; Enhancing social participation in mass media along with media literacy; Promoting democratic values; Create motivation for distribution of verified information in mass media and social networks. Objectives for Т1 (students and teaching staff): Elaborating an innovative educational module titled “Fact Checking” in order for student-journalists to obtain competencies for verification of European politicians' statements as well as facts connected to European policy provided in news and social media, and therefore develop their understanding of the process of the European Union policy’s functioning. Such programme can inspire student-journalists to become a part of new generation of European citizens and journalists who will be discussing the future of Europe and favour for further development of European self-cognition of citizens. Students should acquire general knowledge about situation in the EU, have access to European databases and experts, and possess technical skills for verification of facts. In order to address civil society, students will be taught to use working strategies in social networks and master communication skills with the purpose to motivate the audience for communication and create large communities. When students start performing fact-checking at the pan-European level, transnational cooperation through online meetings in virtual classrooms between groups of students, who are going to compare various national points of view, will be encouraged. Objectives for T2 (citizens): Developing a EUcheck media platform in the Internet space, where local citizens via social networks will be offered to ask students to check statements, will favour for expressing daily concern about the future of Europe. In this determination to find answers to burning questions, democratic awareness and civic skills of both the society and future journalists will transform into a stable life philosophy. Thus, students contribute to social dialogue regarding European issues and create a link with European political agenda. Citizens who visit the EUcheck platform will also be able to review other fact-checking reports concerning their country or topic of interest, and therefore enhance their own literacy in interaction with mass media. Checking procedures will be based on constructive approach. The project is intended to call euroscepticism into question and help citizens better understand the procedure of policy’s functioning. (Philology), Professor Department Department of Russian Language and Literature Objective Establishing a Virtual Museum of South Ural’s Writers Tasks Representing SUSU as a leading scientific centre for studying and popularisation of contemporary literature of the South Ural; Determining principles of ontology formation of the Museum, classifiers, catalogues and other information structures;   Forming basic information structures for presentation of documents and museum materials; Developing structure of a web-page of the Virtual Museum; Elaborating design mockup of the Museum’s website; Implementing technology for development of distributed information systems intended for storage and display of information; Conducting a fill-up with literature content (photo archive, biographic information about an author, review of the writer’s works, critical articles and analytical materials, texts of the author’s compositions); Reflecting intermediate results of research activity in articles, electronic study manual, monograph on the topic related to the Virtual Museum. Lingva Programme

Training for IELTS certification exam at SUSU is carried out in the frameworks of project М. 2.1.1. entitled “Implementation of best language training experiences of Programme 5-100 universities”, on the basis of Lingva programme of supplementary linguistic training. Project supervisor is Head of the Department of Modern Languages, Candidate of Sciences (Pedagogy), Associate Professor Ksenia Volchenkova. The main purpose of the programme is maximal enhancement of academic and professional mobility of leading research fellows of the university along with research and academic staff and students. Due to the programme, teaching staff are learning English language in details at six levels in a format of real-life interactive learning (starting from levelA2 to level C1, according to pan-European scale of language competencies). Massive learning of professional English language favours to internationalisation of the university, development of bilingual environment, enhancement of publishing activity, and further acknowledgement of SUSU in the world academic society. In 2017, more than 250 employees had been undertaking their training; 30 employees received IELTS certificates with the result of 6,5 scores and more.
