The Student Unions movement has a rich history lasting for over 50 years.
Student Unions (SU) is a movement of students united by social activity, studying under their specialities during academic year, and working under their unions’ specialities in summer time.
At present, students are employed at the unions in the following fields:
Pedagogy;
Construction;
Passenger Car Attendants; and
Coast Guard Rescuers.
Over 600 students work in student unions every year. In each field, students are gathered into unions supervised by the union commanders. HSLU coordinates the unions’ activities, interacts with organizations of the city, the region and beyond at which students may get employed; interacts with the regional Headquarter of Student Labor Unions; participates in mass demonstrations, campaigns, rallies and various cultural and sports events.
Every year, different region-scale contests and festivals are held with participation of the members of the SUSU student unions: Dance Festival, Song Festival, Teambuilding Cup, Intellectual Games Cup, Joint Creativity Festival with orphanage kids “You Are Not Alone”, and many others. Opening of Summer Labor Season, and the Summer Labor Results Meeting are our traditions.
In 2009 “Counsellor School” advanced training program was elaborated by the SUSU Headquarter of Student Labor Unions jointly with the Department of Professional Education Pedagogy. Every year we facilitate in training guides and life-guards. Courses for the construction union members are organized in additional specialities (painter-plasterer, brick mason, sling operator).
The SUSU HSLU members have multiple times proved to be professionals in their fields: “Best Union” and “Best Union Member” have been awarded to us by the regional Headquarter of Student Labor Unions for over several years. Among our 2009 activists 2 students were awarded the title of the “Best Counsellor of the Chelyabinsk Region”, 3 students were awarded with honorary certificates by the Chelyabinsk Region Ministry of Education, 1 student was awarded the Sanitary Protection Zone Certificate, student was awarded the Badge of Honor by the Chelyabinsk Region Student Union, and 2 students were awarded with honorary certificates by the Chelyabinsk Region Ministry of Construction, Infrastructure and Roads.
In 2009, the SUSU union was awarded the title of the Chelyabinsk Region’s “Best Guides Union”. For the second year in a row, the SUSU students are declared the best lifeguard sailors as per the results of the completed labor term and according to the opinion of the City Rescue Service. In 2010, we applied for participation in the contest “Best All-Russian Pedagogical Union”.
“Golden Trowel” Cup in the section of the Chelyabinsk Region “Best University Headquarter of Student Unions” was awarded to South Ural State University for its great contribution into development of student unions in 2009.

Today, scientific pursuits are primarily based on the actual requirements of manufacturers. The main goal is to change manufacturing techniques to obtain a competitive final product. Researchers at South Ural State University are achieving this goal successfully. One of the examples is the development of methods of preparing products from carbon-graphite powders with high performance properties.

Student Mentoring System is a project on mentoring performed by senior year students for academic groups of freshmen.
Student life starts with the first year of study, that is why successful adaptation to a university way of life and studying is key to further development of every student both as a person, and a future specialist.
Successful beginning of studies may help students in their further studying, have a positive effect on relationships with professors and fellow students, as well as draw attention of organizers of scientific student societies, leaders of various student creativity groups and associations, and activists of the university public life.
Thus, the mission of a student mentor becomes obvious: creating the environment for successful adaptation of freshmen to life in an education organization.
A student mentor is just another student, but also someone who unlike the others knows that s/he wants to help the freshmen both by word and action. So, s/he shall be:
committed;
punctual;
positive;
competent;
open-minded;
honest; and
likable.
The number of this year applicants for student mentoring has been impressive — 380 people. 250 were selected as candidates. 6 days were spent in training. 220 people successfully passed the tests and started their activities as student mentors.
What is required to become a student mentor? First of all, you must really want it; secondly, you need to fill out and application form and pass an interview with a senior student mentor, and of course, you will have to do well in the Student Mentoring System school which is held every August.
Student mentoring means priceless experience, useful skills and unparalleled emotions.

For me SUSU is an opportunity to acquire skills and knowledge in any area I want, SUSU is the great way to broaden your horizons, and also is just cool opportunity for your future career. It is one of the best universities in Chelyabinsk.
Talking about AISA, it could be easily called your second home, where you can find a lot of friends from different countries, as well as it is the place where you can develop yourself in non-studying activities. AISA is about communication, cultural exchange, different languages and, for sure, it is about connections (friends, acquaintances, etc.) forever.

At SUSU they offer quality of education judging from the expertise of the professors and lecturers(at least in my faculty -Architectural and Construction faculty).
In addition to main studies, students at SUSU have the opportunity to realize themselves in different new fields if they wish to. This is made possible by the creation of student Union and the Association of International Students (AIS).
AIS allows students to develop their leadership skills through organizing events like festivals, sports competition and forums within the university and within the region in a bid to encourage cooperation amongst foreign students within and other universities. And the university supports all these by providing the space to do so amongst other needed resources. Apart from that AIS also represents students' interests in the university. I would encourage applicants to consider SUSU as a stepping stone into their careers.

I have just finished a preparatory course and I speak Russian so well already. Maybe you're wondering why I learned Russian so quickly, that's what I'll tell you. the Russian language study program at the university is fantastic. I wonder what other programs would be like, and I already believe that they are even better. In addition, I was actively involved in the association of international students from the very beginning, and talking with them and getting to know them helped me to listen and learn so quickly

South Ural State University (SUSU) is a great choice for my study. As we may know, SUSU is one of the leading universities in Russia, which offers a variety of educational programs taught in both Russian and English. To be honest, I am really interested in the learning environment at SUSU where I can make friends with both the native and international students from different countries around the world. Consequently, studying at SUSU provides me with great opportunities to enhance intercultural competence, which is necessary for effectively adapting in the current globalization. More importantly, I found that the Institute of Linguistics and International Communications offers the high-quality master program of Philology (Theories and Practices of English), which is appropriate to my expectation.

Public health services are an integral part of any successfully functioning system. The SUSU management also pays attention to the health of all the University’s students, professors and staff. There are summer and winter health programs which help support health and prevent illnesses.
A few institutions work with SUSU to support high level of health. They offer not only medical services, but recreation activities as well. The Health and Sports Complex includes: “Berezka” Childrens’ Health Camp, “Olimp” Sports and Recreation Camp, and “Nauka” Recreation Camp for the University professors. The health and sports complex occupies the total territory of 22.7 hectares. The complex is an important part of the organization of recreation for teachers, staff, students, and postgraduates at the University. The health complex is located in one of the most picturesque parts of South Ural, on the shore of lake Bolshoy Sunukul in a forest area of Nepryakhino settlement in Chebarkul District of the Chelyabinsk Region.
1. “Berezka” childrens’ health camp develops an updated program for their childrens’ summer camp every year. This includes new themes and various entertaining events. Much attention is paid to physical education and sports. There are sports groups, the sports and games area is well-equipped, and relay races, sports holidays and camp Olympics are held.
The camp’s educational system combines the experience of the SUSU students and teachers who work as group leaders and managers for creative teams. Each child develops and strengthens his/her knowledge in English, informatics, journalism, and psychology. The camp offers lessons for modern dance and vocals. SUSU students help children create their own teams and learn to participate in KVN.
The children are housed in improved buildings in 2-, 4- and 6-9-bed rooms.
2. “Olimp” sports and recreation camp has earned respect among students as an amazing place for relaxation, health, gaining new friends, and spending great time. This is because of the actively developing infrastructure, modern programs, and new themes, which enrich knowledge, skills, and abilities among students and make personal growth and forming of social attitude possible.
3. “Nauka” recreation camp also became part of the SUSU health complex. This facility is for recreation of the University’s teaching and administrative staff. Its activities include cultural and sports events and organization of discipline work in the student camp. “Nauka” is a place where teachers have a chance to restore their strength in a peaceful location after an academic year is over.
4. SUSU Medical Center
The SUSU Medical Center was founded in 2000 and was designed as a rehabilitation center. In the beginning, their work was focused on rehabilitating those with spinal injuries. The manual therapy office, massage office, and therapeutic exercise center were opened up for the SUSU staff and teachers. In 2003, a base was created for practical lessons of the Faculty of Physical Education students and for the implementation of health programs using medical massage techniques and manual therapy involving therapeutic exercise instructors who graduated from South Ural State University.
In 2004, training was launched for specialists in ozone therapy, an office was opened, and the implementation of modern methods of using ozone for healing purposes was started. In 2008 the rehabilitation center was reorganized and the Medical Center was created at South Ural State University, which included:
Outpatient Polyclinic Division
Areas: physiotherapy, ozone therapy, cardiology, neurology, general practice, cosmetology.
Rehabilitation Division
Areas: neurology, restorative medicine.
Urological Division
Areas: urology, gynecology.
5. “Katalitsa” joint project
The Sunny Valley resort is one of the most popular and most actively developing mountain skiing centers in South Ural. With the support of SUSU, a special project called “Katalitsa” for organizing active recreation of students was founded, thanks to which thousands of students have a chance to ski at one of the best ski resorts in South Ural.
The services of this project can be used by the University students, but also by school students, postgraduates, and the University staff.
