“Everyone Looks, but Not Everyone Sees. 90th Birthday Anniversary of Yuri Teush” Photo Exhibition Will Be Held at SUSU

On January 15th, a ceremony of opening an “Everyone Looks, but Not Everyone Sees…90th Birthday Anniversary of Yuri Teush”” photo exhibition will be held.

Yuri L. Teush (24.12.1930, Kharkiv – 27.10.1988, Chelyabinsk) was a founder of the Chelyabinsk City Photo Club, and member of the Union of Journalists of the USSR. For almost 20 years he worked as a staff correspondent of the Sovetsky Sport newspaper. In 1958 he graduated from the Automobile and Tractor Engineering Faculty of Chelyabinsk Polytechnic Institute (CPI), and worked as a teaching staff member at CPI and at the Chelyabinsk State Pedagogical Institute (ChGPI). He received his first all-Union award (Certificate for Artistic Solution) at the “Seven-year Plan in Action” photo exhibition in Moscow in 1963. And in 1975 he was awarded a gold medal for a “220 kg” sports photo at the world’s most prestigious contest for photojournalists, WORLD PRESS PHOTO, in Amsterdam.

Our exhibition offers a retrospective panorama of photo works of various genres of the period from 1963 through 1988. It comprises 35 photos, and has been organized at the initiative and leading participation of this exhibition’s curator, a journalist and a photo artist Pavel Bolshakov (who is also curating the Yuri Teush Photo Gallery at SUSU).

The majority of the photos at the exhibition represents the genre of sports reporting. Photography historian Sergei Morozov once said: “Sports theme allows to show a wide range of feelings, human passions, and multiple nuances of the emotional (and physical) state of human beings in various situations — be that the state of euphoria or exhaustion from winning, or confusion from failing or loosing. We are fascinated by the harmony of sports, but we are also attracted by the flip side of sporting activity, when our icons find themselves in unusual, tragic, dramatic, or sometimes, even in bitter or funny situations, which people in the stands do not notice.”

Everyone is welcome to attend the ceremony of the exhibition opening at the SUSU Art Gallery (76 Lenin Prospekt) on January 15th at 15:00.

The exhibition will be open for visitors January 15th through February 11th, 10:00 to 17:00, and 10:00 to 15:00 on Saturdays. No charge for admission.
