President of South Ural State University Aleksandr Shestakov has been conferred a title of a “Citizen of Honour of the Chelyabinsk Region”. A relevant decree was signed by the Governor Alexey Texler.
Aleksandr Shestakov has been awarded this distinguished title for his “fruitful state and public activity, and significant contribution to the development of education and science in the Chelyabinsk Region”.
“On behalf of the team of South Ural State University, our students and postgraduates, I would like to congratulate Aleksandr Shestakov on the awarding of this honorary title. The name of Aleksandr Shestakov is inextricably connected with SUSU and its development. This title is a high and well-deserved assessment of the many years of work aimed at the development of our university, higher education and science in the Chelyabinsk Region and across Russia,” notes SUSU Rector Alexander Wagner.
The years-long professional activity of Aleksandr Shestakov is connected with SUSU and the system of our region’s higher education. He headed our university as a rector 2005 through 2022, and was elected President of SUSU in 2022. Aleksandr Shestakov worked as deputy in the Legislative Assembly of the Chelyabinsk Region 2008 through 2025.
For his contribution to the development of education, science and our region, Aleksandr Shestakov was conferred state awards, such as: Medal of the Order “For Merit to the Fatherland”, 2nd class; title of an Honorary Figure of Russian Higher Education; Medal “For Merit in Legislation” of the Legislative Assembly of the Chelyabinsk Region; as well as medals named after academicians V.P. Makeyev, N.A. Pilyugin, and N.A. Semikhatov.
