August 11th through August 14th, the 25th Congress of the Pavlov Russian Physiological Society was held. It brought together more than 500 participants from various regions of our country.
The Pavlov Physiological Society is one of the oldest and most prestigious scientific societies in Russia. The Congress facilitated further consolidation of specialists in a wide range of biological and medical specializations, attraction of talented young people to science, and informing Russian society about the latest achievements in physiology and medicine. Leading Russian scientists had been invited to deliver plenary lectures, and to organize and hold symposiums. Much attention in the program was paid to poster presentations and round tables.
Evgeniia Lutokhina, a postgraduate of the 3rd year of study, offered her poster presentation on the “Physiological Respondency of Athletes in Phygital Competitions” (research advisor: Olga Makunina, Director of the Sport Science Research Centre, Candidate of Sciences (Biology)).
“Participation in such a big-scale scientific event is indeed a great experience and a chance to personally share the results of your research. At this Congress, we have managed to establish research partnerships with leading scientists from other organizations in order to conduct joint research in sports physiology,” noted Evgeniia Lutokhina.
At the symposium on “Sports Physiology of Ultimate Loads: Mechanisms of Support and Control”, a presentation on the “Functional and Metabolic Support of Skiers’ Adaptation to Pre-season Training Loads” was delivered by a team of scientists from the Institute of Sport, Tourism and Service: Vadim Erlikh, Director of the Institute of Sport, Tourism and Service, Professor and Doctor of Sciences (Biology); Anastasiia Bakhareva, Associate Professor at the Department of Self-perfection in Sports, Director of the GTO Digital Testing Centre [GTO stands for Ready for Labour and Defence Physical Education Tests – translator’s comment], Candidate of Sciences (Biology); Dariia Shibkova, Chief Research Fellow at the Sport Science Research Centre, Professor and Doctor of Sciences (Biology).
“For me, the key event was our participation in the symposium. This block covered the current issues of body adaptation to extreme physical loads, human physiological reserves, and modern methods of the performance efficiency control. The discussion sparked a keen interest, while the presented reports stressed the importance of an integrative approach to studying the circulatory, respiratory systems and the neuromuscular apparatus in the context of stress and energy-intensive activities,” shared Anastasiia Bakhareva.
The place of physiology in modern academic programmes in Biology and Medicine was in detail considered at the Congress.
