Feel the Eastern Charm: SUSU Invites All to the Arab Culture Day

South Ural State University is a multinational higher education institution, in which studying are students from 52 countries. The majority of international students – more than 200 people – are representatives of Arab countries. April 5, SUSU is to organise the Arab Culture Day, where everyone interested will be able to get familiar with their customs and traditions.

The Arab Culture Day in intended to introduce Russian students and academics to features of other countries, as well as provide an opportunity for international students studying at SUSU to present their nation, their country and their culture.

This is the fourth time that the Arab Culture Day is held at SUSU. The first event was held in 2016 and has already become a good tradition of the university.

“Celebratory events featuring international students are usually held upon their own initiative. All of them want to show their talents and present their culture. Every year, students from Asian countries (or better not say Asian countries because, for example, Kazakhstan or Uzbekistan are likely to be considered as Eastern countries. Iranians note that their country is not Asian as well) massively celebrate Navruz, during which they introduce their traditions to the audience. Representatives of other countries also expressed their willing to organise performances in order to show their national dances and songs to their Russian friends. This is how SUSU started celebrating the Arab Culture Day and the African Culture Day. Not only academic and students of the university but everyone who interested are welcomed at these events,” said specialist of the International Student Support at SUSU’s International Office, Valeriia Chachina.

As per tradition, SUSU invites representatives of Embassies and Consulates of Arab countries to the Arab Culture Day. At the beginning of the event in the Activity Hall, honorable guests of the university will deliver their welcoming speeches. After the official part, students from ten countries – Libya, Palestine, Iraq, Jordan, Syria, Morocco, Yemen, Algeria, Egypt and Sudan – will talk about their countries, their specificities and traditions.

On the main stage of the university, students will show their talents and present artistic performances. They will perform national songs, dances and poems dedicated to their Motherland.

Let us note that such events targeted at creating the environment for maintenance of international and intercultural communications get regularly organised by the Association of International Students of the Southern Urals and the SUSU International Office.
