SUSU Students and Staff Will Give Blood as Part of the Annual SUSU Donor Day Campaign

On April 18th and 19th Donor Day will be held at South Ural State University, and anyone willing will be able to donate blood. The event will be held from 8:00 to 13:00. This time the event is dedicated to National Donor Day celebrated on April 20th.

Donors are people who voluntarily, because of their kind-hearted generosity, give their blood to people. The word “donor” comes from the Latin donore meaning “I give”. Only healthy individuals who complete a rigorous medical examination can give blood. The health of each donor is checked before every blood draw.

“SUSU Donor Day is held so that students could help people in difficult situations. They come with the goal and desire to give blood and extend their helping hand to others,” explains the organizer of the event, Head of the SUSU Volunteer Center Elina Alieva.

Donor registration will be organized on the second floor of the second building of SUSU by staff of the Blood Transfusion Service. A specially-equipped mobile blood draw station will be placed at the parking area of SUSU Building 2 (85 Lenin Prospect). You need to bring your passport and registration with you (or document showing temporary registration).

“It is worth noting that donation is one of the fields of our volunteer work. 2018 was named the Year of the Volunteer, which makes it possible to both stress the importance of volunteer work for modern society and do your own good deeds,” shares Deputy Head of the SUSU Volunteer Center Dmitry Babushkin.

Here is to remind you that there are a number of recommendations to prepare for blood draws. Blood donation should be completed after a light breakfast (not on an empty stomach); it is recommended to not eat fatty, fried, or dairy foods for dinner the night before; sweet tea, croutons, cookies, and fruits are recommended. It is necessary to avoid alcohol for 48 hours before donation and aspirin, analgin, and other medications which contain aspirin and pain relievers 72 hours before the procedure. If possible, avoid smoking for one hour before donation, and sleep well the night before.
