World Poetry Day, a holiday of masters of the pen and everyone thanks to whom we contemplate the eternal, is celebrated on March 21st. Evgeniy Smyshlyaev, teaching staff member and Associate Professor of the SUSU Department of Russian Language and Literature, Candidate of Sciences (Philology), and literary critic speaks about the specifics of modern poetry, trends in its development, classical poems, and much more.
– Why are predominantly classical poems of the 19th and early 20th centuries considered to be immortal and admired by almost everyone?
The Sixth Civil Readings in memory of Professor M.G. Pronina were held on March 13, 2024. They were organized by the Academy of Public Administration under the aegis of the President of the Republic of Belarus, Belarusian State University, Ural State Law University, National Centre for Legal Information, and Belarusian Republican Union of Lawyers.

A team of SUSU engineers, programmers and mathematicians has created a system for preventing breakdowns and emergency shutdowns of a cold rolling mill at Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK). The new diagnostic technology has already been implemented and launched at the enterprise. Unique competitions will be held in Kazan February 21st through March 3rd. This high-tech digital event is based on the phygital concept and combines esports skills, physical activity and new reality technologies, such as VR/AR.
The experimental competition will feature 21 disciplines, and the topics are divided into 5 clusters, which are called challenges: Sport Challenge, Tactical Challenge, Battle Challenge, Speedrun Challenge, and Technical Challenge. Esports teams from more than 100 countries and about 2000 athletes will take part in them.

International Mother Language Day is celebrated worldwide on February 21st. This date was chosen for a reason: students, who protested in defence of their native language, Bengali, were killed by police in Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh, on February 21, 1952. The students demanded to recognize this language as one of the state languages of the country. Later, on November 17, 1999, this holiday was proclaimed by the General Conference of UNESCO and has been celebrated annually since 2000.
