“Inclusive Communication” – an Important Master Class for SUSU Staff

The SUSU Institute of Open and Distance Education organised a master class called Inclusive Communication for the university staff. The event was held as part of the 2nd Festival of Online Education, Interactive Universe.

The master class was held by Yuliya Shumova, Associate Professor of the IODE Department of Modern Educational Technologies, head of the Centre for the Implementation and Development of Inclusive Technologies autonomous non-profit organization, and Alina Khairullina, IODE teaching and methodology specialist. The experts spoke with the university teachers about the main rules and principles of inclusive communication and demonstrated general and special skills of inclusive communication.

During the master class, the participants completed a number of assignments which helped them master methods of working with individuals with various disabilities of different medical conditions. As the SUSU teachers noted, the practically-oriented nature of the event allowed them to understand how to effectively use the obtained knowledge in their professional activities.

“Thank you for organising this master class! I was an active participant. I tried to complete elementary social tasks acting as a blind person, which turned out to be not so simple. I also really appreciate the chance to attend this rare event and gain valuable materials straight from the source, directly from someone who lives through this experience. Huge thanks to Yuliya Shumova for her tenacity, optimism, altruism, and professionalism!” noted Elena Grednovskaya, Head of the Department of Philosophy, who took part in the event.

“The Inclusive Communication master class allowed me to immerse myself in real situations which can occur when working with individuals with disabilities. This is a very valuable experience which every teacher and staff member of the university’s institutions should have, no matter if they have such students at the moment or not,” commented Maria Legenchuk, Head of a sector of the Office of Library Services Computerization of the SUSU Scientific Library.

Besides this master class, Yuliya Shumova launched an online course on Organisational and Pedagogical Basics of Inclusive Higher Professional Education for Individuals with Disabilities. You can register till March 18th here.

This course is free for SUSU staff.
