It is Time to Groove: the SUSU School of Sound Engineers and DJs Started its Classes

South Ural State University has a huge number of student associations and projects, where each student can choose the direction for creative self-realization. School of Sound Engineers and DJs is one of the most interesting for the modern young man.

This musical educational project was created in 2013 on the initiative of SUSU students Pavel Lifshits and Dmitry Savchenko, who won the SUSU’s Best Representatives Contest. With the support of the university management, there was purchased the equipment that allowed holding classes. Today the School is a constantly developing student association, where everyone can learn the art of sound engineering, DJing and writing music.

“A DJ is a person who creates mood and atmosphere by means of music. To say by professional words, this is the one who correctly selects sound material and makes it harmoniously sound. DJing and sound engineering have something in common; DJ needs knowledge of the sound engineer and vice versa. Classes at the School are held by members of the Organizing Committee who graduated from the School a few years ago and have extensive experience in these fields. Each year, members of the Organizing Committee change and every new member introduces new ideas into its development,” said Nikita Nikonov, Head of the Sound Engineers and DJs School.

Recently, the School of Sound Engineers and DJs enrolled into classes the seventh group of students. The school has several courses. The initial course focuses on sound engineering and working with the equipment at events and is followed by an exam. Students who successfully pass this stage are enrolled in the list of members and practice their acquired skills during various holidays and the university PR campaigns.

After this, the first DJ course begins for the students, in parallel with which they can complete the course of writing music. After completing the courses, students take intensive training in summer shifts at the SUSU Olimp Sports and Recreation Camp. Students participate in cultural events and discos. Here the workshops of the practicing DJs take place. Demonstration of work with turntables is one of the most interesting.

The second year of DJing gives more in-depth DJing skills. The most successful students become residents of the best clubs and entertainment establishments of the city.

Students enrolled in the School master various superprofessional competencies in the process of extracurricular activities. They learn effective communication, the ability to quickly solve emerging issues, work in a team, present themselves in social networks and much more. After graduating from the School of Sound Engineers and DJs, students receive a certificate of attendance, but, according to participants, practical experience of graduates, which allows them to have additional income from DJing, develop in the field of Event Management and other areas is the most important.

“The SUSU School of Sound Engineers and DJs helped me to gain leadership experience. In my student years, I held classes for students and gained teaching experience. I would like to wish all students to be eager for knowledge, courageous on the stage, patient with time and friendly with colleagues. It is time to groove!” said one of the creators of the project, a graduate of SUSU, Dmitry Savchenko.

Anyone over 18 years old, students of SUSU and other universities, as well as people who have already graduated, can enroll in the School of Sound Engineers and DJs. To do this, it is necessary to fill in a special form. Information about the activities of the School is posted on the official page of the project.
