Extramural Higher Education: SUSU Offers Over 60 Prestigious Educational Directions

Until September 15, 2018, South Ural State University accepts the documents for the bachelor's degree, specialty and master's degree programs from the applicants wishing to graduate from the university extramural mode of study on a fee basis.

Modern pace of life and personal circumstances (army service, maternity leave, vocational secondary education, different financial possibilities) are the consequences of the fact that it can be more convenient for a student to obtain one or even more higher education on the extramural basis. This mode of study at SUSU is presented by technical and natural sciences professions as well as by social and humanitarian professions and is a convenient way of obtaining the qualitative higher education, time and finances savings.

"Extra-mural students are being present in the same educational environment and studying on the basis of the same educational standards, obtain the same knowledge and skills as the students of the intramural mode of study. The main difference consists in the ratio of the number of intramural classes within the year and the scope of students’ independent work. According to the current standards the amount of intramural classes in case of extramural studying within a year should not exceed 200 hours. Consequently as a rule classroom activities with the participation of a teacher are divided into three sessions: the fall (preliminary) session with a running time of 1-2 weeks, the winter (laboratory-examinational and the second preliminary) session lasting for 3-4 weeks and the summer (laboratory-examinational) session lasting for 1,5-2,5 weeks,” says Deputy Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of SUSU Yulia Bolotina.

During the sessions, students are actively attending intramural classes including on weekends. The rest of the time they study the material independently, as well as with the help of Internet-technologies presented at Institute of Open and Distance Education of SUSU.

Extramural directions of education are present practically at every Higher School or Institute of South Ural State University, but they are most extensively presented at Extramural Faculty of Institute of Engineering and Technology of South Ural State University, which offers the labor market demanded engineering profiles from electric power and electrical engineering to engineering and metallurgy.

The minimum cost of education in 2018-2019 of extramural mode of study at SUSU makes up 41 thousand rubles per year for such specialties of the bachelor's degree program as, for example, “Physical Culture”, “Physical Culture for Persons with Disabilities in Health”, “Tourism” of Institute of Sport, Tourism and Service, and the maximum cost makes up 62 thousand rubles per year for the direction of the master's degree program “Construction” of Institute of Architecture and Construction of SUSU.
