On June 20, admission campaign started in universities all around Russia. In this regard, representatives of the leading universities of the Chelyabinsk region were invited to the new episode of Talk Show The Round, South Ural State University among them.

The topic of discussion was prospective professions, advantages of contract-based and state-funded education forms, and the employability of alumni.

“Nowadays the most popular are professions in the sphere of information technology,” says Rector of SUSU, Doctor of Engineering Sciences, Professor Aleksandr Shestakov. “Moreover, new programs are being developed: in 2017, our university launched a new master’s program connected with studying the artificial intelligence. In this regard, a scaleous work is being carried out presently, and we are planning to launch a program in the sphere of Big Data Processing. This is a new tendency not only for Russia but for the entire global society, and our country is developing ‘in advance’. If we are to speak about engineering specialties, nowadays they are being transformed and new professions connected with computer technology and data processing come into existence.”

It is important to note that in 2018 South Ural State University offers about 3500 quotas for state-funded education. The university is also ready to accept university applicants who got the minimum of required scores for studying upon a contract.

Among the invited guests, there were also the Head of the Department of Higher Education and Science of the Ministry of Education of the Chelyabinsk region, Elena Kochanova; Chairman of the Parent Council, Andrey Gorlantsev; representatives of businesses, students of contract-based and state-financed modes of study, etc. One of the major issues proposed for discussion was university applicants’ motivation for choosing the contract-based form of education. For instance, its main advantage is in the mobile nature of the future profession choice. Besides, students themselves believe that the chosen sphere of activity allows them refunding the tuition costs within a short period after graduation and further employment.
