SUSU is to Develop Quadcopters that will Control Traffic at the MKAD

A delegation from SUSU visited Scientific and Production Association “Orion” in Moscow. In the result of the visit, several areas of cooperation were determined. Implementation of projects is planned for the nearest future.

Scientific and Production Association “Orion” is a part of Rostech State Corporation; it is specialized on creation of items for optic-electronic systems: photoreceivers, infrared lasers, night vision devices, etc. Considerable part of products is applied in the military sphere; meanwhile, diversification of the company for manufacture of products for civil purposes is carried out. In this area, Orion is interested in cooperation with South Ural State University.

“In the course of the visit, we proposed a series of projects. First of all, there are sorbents. Considering the fact that the enterprise in its production uses heavy metals, the issue of environment protection is relevant. We offered to use sorbents invented in our university; their testing showed good results. The second project that we discussed is placing sensors and unique cameras of the enterprise on quadcopers. Our team is working on development of the quadcopters’ construction. A certain number of them will be positioned over the MKAD (Moscow Ring Road) in order to control the traffic. We have already produced a pilot lot; testing is to start in the nearest future,” says Vice-Rector for Research, Doctor of Engineering Sciences, Professor Aleksandr Dyakonov.

In order to implement the latest project, a small innovative enterprise has been created at SUSU, which will produce a thousand of new quadcopters till the end of 2018. Their specificity is in the fact that they will always be positioned at a fixed place and transmit information for traffic control no matter the weather conditions. Moreover, experimental industrial exploitation of sorbents in the existing industry is planned in the nearest future.
