Junior Academy of Linguistics for Senior High Schoolers Opens at SUSU

On April 14th the ceremony of opening Junior Academy of Linguistics and International Communication will be held at South Ural State University. The academy will include 2 schools: International Relations, and Linguistics and Translation.

The event is organized by the SUSU Institute of Linguistics and International Communication for students of the 8th-11th grades of schools, gymnasiums, and lyceums.

Teaching staff and students of all of the Institute’s departments will participate in the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony will include a presentation of the concept of the Junior Academy of Linguistics and International Communication, as well as the program of the event. Students of every field of study will share with school pupils on the peculiarities of each specialty, and will do creative, bright, musical performances in the format of a short presentation of each field.

International students from 10 countries will help broaden the general worldview of Russian students, share part of their culture through dance and songs in their native language. The students will be able to participate the Languages of the World game.

After the opening ceremony, master classes on the art of speech and presentations (based on TED TALK principles of presentation skills) will be offered for pupils.

Classes in Junior Academy of Linguistics and International Communication are totally free of charge.

The Academy of Linguistics and International Communication combines the best traditions of classical humanitarian education with the newest developments in modern linguistics, international relations, and international regional studies which have been tested by the SUSU Institute of Linguistics and International Communication.

The goal of the Academy is professional guidance and adaptation of senior high school pupils for their further enrolling and studying in the SUSU ILIC in programs of international relations, regional studies, and linguistics.

The events will include master classes, contests, webinars, round tables, business games, fascinating lectures, as well as quests and theatrical performances in foreign languages. School pupils will complete testing to determine their foreign language levels and will train for the Unified State Examination and Basic State Examination on foreign language.

The event program also includes:

  • Meetings with leaders of large companies and businesses in the fields of international relations and linguistics;
  • Meetings with the best graduates of the Institute of Linguistics and International Communication;
  • Cultural excursions with international students;
  • Attending and participating in extracurricular events, festivals, contests, concerts, and celebrations organized at the Institute;
  • Attending lessons and events of the Center of Sociocultural Adaptation for international students.
