SUSU Welcomed the 2018 FIFA World Cup Trophy

On September 19, the FIFA 2018 World Cup Trophy was displayed at South Ural State University.

The Cup of the FIFA World Football Championship is the major prize awarded to winners of the world championship, but which stays in ownership of FIFA. The six-kilogram trophy is made of pure gold. But the right to touch it only belongs to leaders of countries and winners of the football tournament.

At SUSU, the first one to see the Cup and take a memorable photo was Rector of South Ural State University Alexander Shestakov.

“To see the Cup among the first ones is exciting. The event itself – the football World Cup in Russia – is a massive event and a huge luck for Russia. And the fact that the trophy is travelling along our country, and Chelyabinsk is the third city in which it went, is amazing. On the one hand, this is an assessment of significance of our city, and on the other hand, this is an assessment of significance of our university!”

SUSU joined the longest in history national tour of the FIFA World Champions’ Cup. The trophy will visit 24 Russian cities and more than 50 countries around the world. To see it is an important event, particularly for football lovers.

“I think this is a really good event, because football World Cup will finally be held in Russia. The Cup is an iconic trophy for all football players! Next year at the World Cup more than a million fans are expected, and I think it will be a real celebration of football. And today the football celebration will take place at SUSU, and I hope that everyone will be able to take a memorable photo,” said deputy Chairman of the SUSU Trade Union Committee Almir Yulmukhametov.

The Cup will remain in our city till September 24 inclusively, then it will go to Ufa.
