SUSU Postgraduates to Receive State-Recognized Degrees

Tomorrow at South Ural State University the first graduation will be held in which students will receive state-recognized degrees. Four of them are international students from Iraq, Yemen, the People’s Republic of China, and Mongolia.

Today, more than 500 post graduate students and 68 young researchers from abroad are studying at SUSU. These students have chosen the South Ural region university as the main venue for improving their professional level. The university offers many opportunities for this – there are 26 post-graduate study areas at SUSU. It is possible to receive an education in various areas from physics and astronomy, mathematics, and mechanics, to economics and language studies.

In June, 32 post graduates will be the first to receive a new kind of state degree about the completion of post-graduate studies. All of them successfully completed the main academic program. They will receive the qualification researcher. Teacher-researcher.

Before 2014, post-graduate studies were not a level of education – they received a document about the completion of post-graduate studies and about the completion of candidate exams.

«Recently technical, physical, and mathematical sciences are of great interest to both Russian and international post-graduate studies,» notes the head of the Post-Graduate Office, Nadezhda Zhilenkova, «The coming graduation is special. Of all of the post-graduates who have taken their exams and defended their research work in the socio-humanitarian sciences block, it is important to note the four international students who successfully completed it despite their language barrier. By request of our international students, more intensive courses of Russian language study were created at SUSU. They study Russian language so that they speak Russian very well before their defense and successfully defend their dissertations. I would also like to note the patience and perseverance of their scientific advisors, since the «student-advisor» pair is an essential requirement for successful research work. Advisors who have worked with the international post-graduates include director of the Institute of Natural Sciences, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, associate professor of SUSU Alevtina Keller; doctor of physical and mathematical science, associate professor S.A. Zagrebina; doctor of physical and mathematical science, associate professor A.A. ZamyshlyaevaM.A. Sagadeeva, doctor of pedagogical sciences, professor I.O. Kotlyarova. Thanks to their patience and perseverance, four international students successfully defended their dissertations in seeking the academic title candidate of science.»

In July another defense will be held for a post-graduate student from Iraq in the SUSU dissertation council, where the head of the committee will be university rector, doctor of technical sciences, professor of Alexander Shestokov.

After receiving their degrees from the main post-graduate academic program, the international post-graduates and their scientific advisers will continue working on their dissertations. In architecture, Chinese citizen Zhao Shen is completing research on the topic «Architectural and landscape organization of islands of the tourist town Zhouzhuang (based on the islands of Dinghai, Pudong, Daishan, and Shanxi). Aspirant Hussein Husam Mohammed Ali (Yemen) is completing comparative legal research on the topic «Ensuring the right of protection under the laws of Russia and the Republic of Yemen.» In Archaeology, Battulga Ochir (Mongolia) is writing his dissertation on the topic «Archaeological research of the Xiongnu monuments in Mongolia», while Abdulla Hoshan Farhad Abdulla (Iraq) is studying the sociocultural adaptation of international students through leisure activities (pedagogical sciences).

«In the future, we will continue to accept international students for study, including from such countries as Tajikistan and Kazakhstan. In the near future, the university plans on creating new dissertation committees (today there are thirteen), of which there are not enough at SUSU. We are also planning on organizing the process for defending dissertations in English and giving out PhDs,» said the head of the Post-Graduate Office, sharing the prospects of development.

The award ceremony for these cherished SUSU post-graduate degrees will be held on June 29th at 15:00 in auditorium 1007 (the Research Council Meeting Room).
