Competition for the future: SUSU results in the Project 5-100 were estimated in Moscow

 

On March 18 the delegation of the University submitted the report on project implementation to the Council for increase in competitiveness of leading universities of the Russian Federation among the leading world scientific and educational centers.

The report of the South Ural State University comprised information on achievements of the University for the last year. The report was about the main changes which affected practically all fields of SUSU activity. Among them creation of the modern effective structure of the higher educational institution meeting the international standards and the leading scientific works, support of young scientists, creation of the International scientific and Supervisory councils, implementation of project management system at the university, implementation of the KPI system, increase in an average quoting range and quality of publication activity, development of distance training system and many other things.

The members of the council, the Deputy Russian Prime Minister Olga Golodets, the Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Olga Vasilyeva, the President and the Chairman of OJSC “Sberbank Russia” German Gref, and many other foreign and Russian representatives of the scientific and academic community, acknowledged world experts were on the one hand, and SUSU rector Alexander Shestakov, the vice-president of the Emerson company Slavomir Sukhomski, the senior manager of Strategy and Operating Efficiency Department of PricewaterhouseCoopers Igor Booth, the director of the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Gleb Radchenko, the head of International Backgrounds Department of  International Cooperation Management Center Ksenia Yakovets from the other hand. Presentation of the report and its discussion were conducted in English.

"We highly appreciate project results, it is very important to us. – Olga Golodets commented on higher education institutions achievements - Significant growth of indicators is obvious which reflects Russian higher education institutions competitiveness. These indicators characterize entry of the Russian universities into world educational space: increase in a foreign students exchange, increase in a foreign teachers and research associates exchange, increase in number of publications and citing in world scientific publications, an involvement of our universities into the international scientific research. All higher education institutions have absolute positive dynamics".

Exactly a year ago SUSU successfully protected "the road map" – the university development plan for the next five years. The first year of participation in the Project 5-100 became a year of big changes and "the swift victories" for the University.

"In one and a half year there was a set of changes in the university. We could provide internationalization of our scientific works and involve employees in the international research which is conducted together with the world’s leading scientists. Another important achievement is creation of the effectiveness ratio system", - the vice rector for a strategic development Andrey Keller noted.

After the SUSU report the International council focused its attention on University development strategies, suggested promotion of the new areas of work and also noted good start of the University in the Project 5-100 in general. According to members of the council, such purposeful work allows SUSU not only to improve its place in the international ratings, but also to provide region economy with the small innovative enterprises, modern engineering solutions and highly qualified specialists.

"Council members treated our work with interest therefore presentation of the report evoked a vivid discussion. Certainly, further development of the University became the main theme of the discussion. The great interest was raised by the questions concerning computer engineering and new structural division of our university – the School of medical biology", - the rector Alexander Shestakov emphasized.

According to the rector, the next stage of a program implementation will be the project on improvement of University image in the international environment, and also creation of new SUSU brand. The university will continue its work on creation of the international laboratories and young scientists motivational programs, and it also plans to participate in global breakthrough projects in the field of technologies and science development, thereby winning the ground in world educational space.
