ISHS Philologist Wins International Translation Contest

 

On December 11th, Olga Begisheva (SH-409), student of the Institute of Socio-humanitarian Sciences' Department of Philology won an international competition in translation of Polish poetry. The competition for translators of Polish literature was held in Wroclaw (Poland), since this city was chosen as one of the capitals of European culture. Olga Begisheva presented an excerpt from a work by Barbara Paluchowa “O góralce Hanusi i panience Danusi”. Olga Begisheva's candidature for participation was put forth by the author of the original work herself as well as by Anatoliy Nekhai, current member of the Union of Translators of Russia.

Olga is participating in annual internet seminars on translating Polish poetry for the second year. Last year, she was a prizewinner in the 26th International Competition of Young Translators which was held in Saint Petersburg. According to the results of the competition, the ISHS student received a grant for publishing her translation.
