The Science of Light: Emeritus Professor of the University of Barcelona Held an Open Lecture

The program for the meeting of the Internatinal Science Council included a range of open lectures from leading international researchers on their topics of research. Doctor Maria Zhozefa Yuzuel (Spain) – honored professor of the University of Barcelona, member of the Royal Academies of Science and Art, the Academy of Granada, and the Royal Academy of Zaragoza. Throughout her career she has been awarded national and international awards multiple times. She was a representative and the vice president of the Spanish Optical Society. Throughout 2015, she was a representative of the Spanish Committee for holding the International Year of Light. As part of her open lecture, the doctor presented theoretical data to SUSU students and representatives, as well as the results of her research on the topic: “The Use of Liquid Crystal Panels in Difractional Optics.”

As the professor noted, a large area of her research is dedicated to the possibility of using optics for large data storage (holographic data storage).

“We’ll be studying holographic data because this will be the main task for the scientific community in the near future. We will need a lot of information in particular for study of the universe,” noted the professor in her speech.

The professor presented her materials to SUSU so that university students and researchers could study it more thoroughly and in more detail. As a note, doctor Maria Yuzuel’s research in the area of image processing and liquid crystals is known around the world.

In her lecture, Maria paid special attention to the international society of optics and photonics – the Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentatino Engineers, which the speaker is a member of. SPIE is a professional, non-commercial international society whose members include researchers and inventors from all around the world. At this time, this includes 166 countries, 19000 society members, 20 annual conferences, 300 student organization, and more than 264000 clients around the world.

In addition, according to the speaker, the study of optics helps different technologies develop, so specialists in this area will always be in demand.

Russia is also included in this society and actively participates in its development.

As a note, SUSU also has a department of optoinformatics.
