“A Leader Must Always Be Honest” – Edward Monser Gave a Lecture on the Idea of Leadership

Open lectures by world-class scientists are continuing at SUSU. On October 11th, the president of the Emerson company Edward Monser discussed the true meaning of leadership and shared his personal experience as the head of a large corporation.

The lecture by a top manager of world renown caused an unheard-of stir among Chelyabinsk residents. Not just SUSU students and professors came to Edward Monser’s masterclass, residents of the city came as well. Among the audience were representatives of the business community, researchers from regional universities, and even schoolchildren.

In the beginning of his presentation Eduard noted that the topic of leadership is very dear to him. As the speaker himself noted, developments in this area were inspired by a conversation with an employee from Emerson a few years ago. Hearing the question, “What is leadership?”, Monser decided to conduct detailed research on this topic.

During his work as president of Emerson he defined 4 main qualities that define a leader: honesty, foresight, competence, and the ability to inspire. According to Monser, these qualities must exist in equal harmony and are inseparable from one another. In his presentation, the speaker expanded on each of these qualities in detail and provided examples of their occurrence from his own experience as a leader. The leading manager stressed that the ability to use the qualities of one’s own personality directly affect the work of a company.

“Quality of leadership is a key element for growth. The better the leader works, the faster his organization develops,” notes Edward Monser.

The effect of effective leadership is the satisfaction of employee’s needs in trust, relevance, optimism and their results. All of these are dependent upon quality rapport and are applicable not only in business but in education and interpersonal relationships, as well.

At the end of his talk, Eduard Monser noted that South Ural State University faces a difficult task in becoming one of the top 100 universities in the world. However, the president of Emerson stressed that the university has all of the resources it needs to achieve this goal. He expressed his hopes to visit SUSU in 2017 to see how far the university has moved toward its goals.

As a reminder, the partnership between South Ural State University and the Emerson company has existed over 10 years in numerous research and academic programs.
