Representatives of SUSU Got to Know the Experience of Internationalization of Higher Education in the USA

 

A SUSU delegation led by the head of the SUSU office of international affairs Aleksandr Deev, will be participating in a seminar entitled “The Internationalization of Higher Education in the 21st Century: the Experience of Universities in the USA.” The seminar will be held at Boston College (Massachusetts, USA).

Seminar participants already went to two famous American Universities: Northwestern University and Franklin Olin College. At the former an academic model called experienced learning is being used, which consists of close interaction between the university and companies and requisite half-year work periods in the area of study during bachelor’s degree study. In this period, more tan half of the students complete internships with companies overseas. The latter university, Franklin Olin College, is known for its innovative approach to engineering education. Students work on their research projects in several countries during their education. 

Within the seminar, participants got to know the ins and outs of Internationalization programs at institutions of Higher education in the USA, and learned about which characteristics of Higher education in particular helped USA universities achieve a high level of demand on the international academic market. Program participants got an idea of the different requirements at Russian and American universities, a few political and historical aspects of getting development of Higher education in the USA, and modern requirements and resources of internationalization. 

Sharing his feelings about the first week of the project, Aleksandr Deev stated that the knowledge gained during this seminar will help build strategies for the internationalization of higher education at SUSU in the near future. 

“Today we’re also developing a project to attract talented, young international students to our university. At the moment, many universities around the world are fighting for students using various collections of incentives. The seminar in Boston allowed us to make concrete ideas about creating a competitive advantage for South Ural State University, about the personalization of incentives for talented students wishing to study at SUSU, the addition of special offers for grant support, living, and the possibility of building a personal approach to education”, notes Aleksandr Vladimirovich, “the helpful experience of participating in this seminar allows us to move more confidently in the future along the path to internationalization taking global academic and economic problems and tendencies into account.”
