South Ural State University, a new member of the ‘5-100’ project, and the Lappeenranta University of Technology (Finland) have entered into the agreement on joint postgraduate studies. From now on post graduate students of SUSU can not only get a Cand. Sc. degree, but also a PhD degree at the end of their dissertation research.
The main criteria for the selection of the joint post graduate studies are excellent academic performance, good command of English, as well as the research topic corresponding with the interests of both universities. Defense of the thesis is to take place in Finland and Russia with the following realization of two diplomas – the diploma of the Candidate of Science (Cand. Sc.) in Russia and the diploma of the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Finland.
The program is a continuation of the long-term cooperation of the Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Informatics of SUSU and Lappeenranta University of Technology in the field of information technologies. In the previous two years the partner universities have opened 2 double degree Master programs in the sphere of IT, as well as joint international grants have been won.
PhD student of the department of System Programming of SUSU, Dmitry Savchenko, is the first one to give the abovementioned double degree a try. The topic of his research project is the development of a platform for the automated testing of cloud applications as the basis of the development of modern Internet. This topic is closely linked to areas of research of scientists from South Ural State University and Lappeenranta.
Dmitry has already published a joint article in the works of an international conference, next year a semi-annual training in Finland is scheduled to prepare the English version of the thesis.
