Data from SUSU Department of Natural Disaster Consequences Elimination

Today at SUSU immediately after the emergency accident a new department has been created; it deals with elimination of the consequences of natural disaster. The head of this department is the University Rector, Alexander Leonidovich Shestakov.

In the morning SUSU Security Service immediately evacuated all the students and University staff. According to the recent information all SUSU campuses were seriously damaged, especially on the lower floors: nearly two thousand windows were destroyed. But the hangars in 2Б and 2В University buildings were damaged most of all. It is impossible to restore the premises in a short period time and for now they will be sealed.

The University specialists made an express-evaluation of the load-bearing structure condition; additional storey of the main building, University building 3Б and swimming pool were inspected more thoroughly.  According to the data provided by Building and Engineering Constructions Department of SUSU Architecture and Construction Faculty the University building is safe and there is nothing to worry about. Background radiation is normal – from 0.13 to 0.17 mcSv/h.

According to Vice Rector for Administrative-Maintenance Operation and Construction, Vadim Alexandrovich Trofimychev, the building materials have been purchased immediately after the emergency accident and now the repair works to restore the damages are in progress. The windows are covered with fiberboard to prevent the cooling of buildings. The specialists of Administrative-Maintenance Department of the University, groups formed by the faculties and student brigades are now working at the damaged places. For repairing big windows in the lecture rooms the hydraulic ram are used.

At the present time half of the broken windows is covered. The repair work will continue even at the weekend.
